G3

Steve Morse , probably not one guitarist out there with as much of a solo type catalogue as him. He'd fit in well with all of his diversity. I like Di Meola as much as the next guy.. but not sure he'd fit in with the rock out type of style.

On a side note i've talked to a few people that have gone to some of this years shows.. and they are saying Gilbert is absolutely stealing the show.

Morse would be a great choice. Or how about ressurecting some of the lesser known old Shrapnel guys like Joey Tafolla or Blues Saraceno...both of thpose guys would be great.

Greg Howe would be another great choice.

Jeff Loomis was an odd choice, he sucks compared to everyone else mentioned. Vai puts on the best show, Malmsteen had a great show too, but he picked the wrong songs. I'd like to see Buckethead, not the most energetic player there, but he'd be damn interesting. Petrucci is so bad at G3 it's funny. They could get a guitar playing robot called Petrucci-tron and nobody would know the difference.

I'm not a Loomis fan...I've listened to a lot of his stuff and I don't get the love.

He started with Shrapnel but then went to Squawk for Time Odyssey. That would be cool to see him though. I've only seen him in a clinic setting, back in ~1990.

It would be cool to have a Shrapnel "reunion" of some of the earliest members of the fold. Malmsteen, Gilbert, MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, Richie Kotzen, and a special appearance by Friedman and Becker. All with Sheehan on bass.

I might fly half way around the world, walk three miles through broken glass, and crawl through a mile of sewage to see that show. I'm not sure anybody would care to stand next to me after that commute though...

I'm with you!

I'll be seeing Vinnie Moore with UFO next month.

I guess various shows have had guest guitarists. Steve Morse stepped in on some show in Texas apparently.

I think it should be a weekly broadcast satelite show. Then one time quest appearences would work and people could be exposed to many, many current as well as old school players. Like instead of the Letterman show, we could watch the Guitarmen show.

What do ya say ? A weekly 2 hour program on VH1 ? One song each from Vai and Satch, then a few by the quest and the rest live jams.

While I think a Romeo/Petrucci/Satch G3 would be awesome, I couldn't see Romeo actually doing it. Unlike pretty much everyone else who's done G3, Romeo is not the centerpoint of his band. I would go to it in an instant, but I just don't see MJR ever doing something like that.

Too much lack of tastefulness there...minus Petrucci and then we'll see.

Romeo wouldn't fit the bill at all. He wouldn't enough to the table musically or in terms of ticket sales.

@Eyeballkid: lol at choosing Petrucci of those three as the one to remove for the purposes of "tastefulness"

+1

MJR's style of soloing I don't think would fit in a jam with Satch either, whereas Petrucci, Vai and Gilbert all have a much more experimental style and can incorporate the blues, jazz, rock 'n roll stuff more effectively in that kind of setting.

Ok I think all those ideas/opinions are nonsence. Romeo could easily stand his own as a guitar player for what is done on those shows as well as Yngwie, Petrucci or Johnson did. In fact I was a bit disappointed with Johnson but still enjoyed his different approach to the guitar. I agree Romeo doesnt have the recognition for commercial draw but as a player he could easily get the job done. As for downing any of the players mentioned all I can say is I'm glad that I'm able to appreaciate and enjoy them all without all the excess baggage of bones to pack about.

I'll take this moment to say Yngwie easily stole the live jam part of the show and the somewhat uncomfortable look in Vai's eyes was priceless. But I dont begrudge Vai for it, standing up there shreding side by side with someone that can flat pick and harmonize faster and more tastefully than all the hammer on taps Steve could muster had to be a tuff situation. It was an eye opener for me.

I SERIOUSLY doubt that MJR would have ANY issues playing a part of G3. I don't think he'd have an issue coming up with enough material to fill his set, nor do I think he'd have an issue with the "jam" at the end of the show. Satch, IA, & Romeo. That would be SMOKIN'! I'd even stay & watch Joes set!

p.s. Don't turn this into a VS thread!

He did,at least for me, hearing SCARIFIED Live and especially well played on drums in Montreal made the show for me:rock::rock::rock:
