Gaming Thread

I have a lot of these. Just sayin'.

Yes, and we've always said that the only thing that's like WoW is their skill tree. It's pretty much identical, honestly. But that's it. Everything else is completely different, aside from the fact that they're MMOs and behave in ways most MMOs behave. Also, unless you're doing instances designed for groups, you don't have to group up with anyone to quest. It's more like a single player game with multiplayer option.

You would know this if you had played the game for more than an hour. The game needs some balancing and expansions and such, but compared to just about every other MMO besides Eve, the vanilla version of SWTOR is better. Everyone says, "Oh well, WoW has the same stuff lolz!" Well, yes, that's true...AFTER 8 FUCKING YEARS AND FOUR FUCKING EXPANSIONS. SWTOR will be able to continue building and developing and innovating while WoW gets more and more stale by the day. WoW has already blown its load.

im playng red dead redemption finally and im so impressed after only 30 minutes into it. this game easily has the best voice acting i've ever seen in a game. it feels so authentic.

You will continue to enjoy it. Eventually, you will find yourself lost in playing the mini games like Poker, Blackjack, Five Finger, Liar's Dice, Arm Wrestling and Horseshoes! Go get smashed at the local bar and try running around. I bet you won't make it out of the Saloon without falling over several times.

I am looking forward to RDR2.

XII was underrated. Although the gambit system was very flawed and easy to max, making characters exactly the same.

IX > VII > VIII > X > XII > VI > XIII > V > IV

Throw Tactis 1 and 2 in there, somewhere.

I personally don't understand the comparisons to WoW, they're in the same genre so obviously things will be the same in some aspects. That's like saying that COD and DXHR are copycats because they both have guns and shooting with extra damage if you get a headshot. TOR is different in many aspects but they do have to have the staples of MMOs. I'm biased partially because this game got me into the MMO world; I'd never play another MMO and don't like them but the combination of the KOTOR style story stuff/bioware aspects/environment/setting with the MMO staples really is a blast for me.

At level 50 now its become a bit of a grind but there are still times its fresh and fun like operation groups (i've only joined them for world bosses, can't wait to join them for the actual missions), hard mode flashpoints with story (the ones without get boring as hell) and pvp is still a blast when its balanced well and not overrun by a team of 4 nerds who are battlemasters in full bm gear and just rape everyone.

I can't wait for a new expansion though. I enjoy what they have now and I appreciate the updates they've been doing, but honestly I'd much rather see some story continuation. Adding new operations and flashpoints are great and everything, but a truly great expansion would be one that adds an extra chapter to the stories or a new pvp mode so you don't play huttball constantly. they could stagger the stories and release 1 class story from each side per month and alternate, with a schedule set up so everyone knows when they're getting theirs/have some incentive to try out new classes. The legacy system I hope is implemented soon because so many people have gotten to level 50/hella far in their legacy that it'd be a bummer to have it implemented by the time everyone already is wayyyy far into their legacy.

Well, to be fair, John has a solid point with his post; the skill tree really is basically lifted directly from WoW. However, that's about the end of it.

If people are upset that it's an MMO and not a single player game, that's one thing. But if they're upset that it borrows one or two things from WoW (which borrowed 1 or 2 thousand things from just about every other MMO at the time), then I don't see the point in the hate. It's a theme park MMO. It's nothing new. If you take it for what it is and appreciate it for being a SW MMO, you'll enjoy it. If you're mad at Bioware for making a SW MMO that's relatively accessible to many people, then you're just bitter.

There is a lot of talk about the WoW and SWTOR comparisons in-game. I see it almost everytime I log in. Personally, I think the reason why people compare the game to WoW because it is a game that can contend with it. SWTOR made a very impressive release, and I think with time you will see that SWTOR will become one of the most played MMO's. WoW is pretty much shooting blanks, and has been for awhile. Players are relieved to get something fresh, even though there are obvious bugs. We have a lot of old Goon WoW and Everquest players on board, and their opinions are pretty much the same.

I think all the people who are comparing it to WoW at this time are crazy since it has something like 8 years on TOR. If bioware really keep up the pace that they're currently at I can't even imagine what kind of stuff they'll have in 8 years. The fact that bioware is a great developer, the game is accessible, story driven being fairly unique to mmos and having a very wide appeal and the setting of star wars all combine to make it insanely enticing to a lot of gamers and even non gamers. I personally think it'll beat WoW in many regards, its just a question of by when.

TOR also has gotten me semi interested in MMOs. I'd never play an MMO before, but after playing TOR i'm much more receptive. The only reason I got it was I wanted a huge KOTOR 3 (and i'm definitely satisfied) but now that I've seen how fun an MMO could be I'd definitely play one in a setting I enjoy. The Fallout MMO that got cancelled pretty much would've been fun and I would've given that a shot for sure, though I still enjoy a strong single player, full on open world, uber story driven RPG like Elder Scrolls 3-5 (haven't played 1 or 2).

Haven't played it, but from everything I had seen through videos, it did look a lot like WoW with a Star Wars skin; and no, not every MMORPG looks the same. Some people could just be comparing it to WoW though because that's the biggest, most recognizable game--kind of like how every single fucking RPG gets compared to Skyrim now like DA:O was used before it.

Played through Dromund Kaas and Balmorra. Went back to DK and breezed through the heroic quests that i put off, solo. This game is crack. I'm not happy with everything, but goddamn it is fun. And the ending of the Balmorra Warrior story line was awesome. Almost felt bad about putting a saber through the Jedi's belly button.
