Gaming Thread

since we're still talking about how amazing deus ex is, i think the soundtrack for human revolution is the best videogame soundtrack. ever. no joke. I have all the audio on my ipod as well as the official soundtrack and it seriously rules. the stuff he uses and all the little nuances are just flat out amazing and every song fits the situation in such a perfect way. music + videogames really makes amazing art and while there's definitely something to be said for just listening to an album and imagining yourself, the combination of the plot/characters/art direction and music in hr really make it feel futuristic yet realistic and not fanciful.

one especially cool thing is the boss battle tracks are made up of 3 different songs all layered over each other. listening to them individually is good, yet when all mixed together it sounds even better and since you're familiar with all the little things it's awe inspiring to hear.

the original had a great soundtrack no doubt, but HR's is truly amazing due to how its combined with the other art in the game (and invisible war's soundtrack is awful). the feeling of when you first walk into adams apartment, see the curtains rise, hear the robotic welcome home, the droning violins, the distant gold city, the broken mirror obfuscating your self loathing and sense of alienation, it all just ties together into one of the most powerful moments ever. same with when you first walk into the empty penthouse and that music plays, kinda like the original when you go to maggie chow's penthouse and are looking around while the maid says NO YOU NO GO THERE until you find the secret illuminati base.

oh and one last thing, an idea i had last night. it would be sooo sick if bioware implemented the ability to transfer characters between servers in tor, and to celebrate had an entire game (or regions of the world) wide pvp battle. you could have pvp battles on every server for everyone (yes it'd be unbalanced due to the 50's, but the point is best of the best) and have one person who does best chosen from each server. then have them all compete and narrow it down until the top 3 winners get a special item/money and the absolute champion gets one original trilogy outfit item that is super enhanced (sith warriors would get darth vaders outfit, sith inquisitors would get the emperors robe, smugglers would get han solos outfit, troopers would get the storm trooper outfit, bounty hunters would get boba fetts outfit, jedi knights would get luke skywalkers return of the jedi or empire strikes back outfit etc). the awesome rewards would seriously draw out all the best and they could webcast it and tonsss of people would watch; it'd be a great way to attract even more attention by tying it ot the old trilogy and with all the pvp etc, plus a great way to celebrate an awesome feature.

They're gonna eventually give in to server transfers for a fee...everyone does it. Usually you pay one month subscription for a transfer. It happens all the time. They won't do it for free, though, because it's an ass pain.

Also what you described about the "tournament" is exactly what Eve Online does every year.

Pretty much all of them. SWTOR needs to give one free transfer, imo, or consolidate servers. They have too many servers and not enough ppl to fill them.

The free transfer would be a one-time deal, I'm sure of it. Imagine the logistical nightmare of people who change their minds every week about which server they want; it's almost necessary to charge money for it. However, it's FANTASTIC that you can have different characters on different servers, both US and EU. SWTOR pulled through on that one because if worse comes to worst, you can always just re-roll a character on the server you want.

What I want the most is a queue for instances. Some are against it because they say it doesn't promote community; well, neither does spamming LFG in chat.

Yeah, but this is EA. They wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.

Speaking of Bioware, thank the gods Hambeast isn't part of the Mass Effect team.

Speaking of which, when I buy a new Xbox (hopefully soon) I'm doing a complete Mass Effect re-run. o

I will be faithful to Liara, but what decisions do you guys stand by?

Save the council?
Hand technology over to Cerburus at the end of 2? (Seems like a no brainer not to, since you won't be with them in the third game)
Save the Rachni?
Make Counciler black guy the leader or w/e (sorry, I'm drunk)

Looks kinda like Metal Gear. Nice.

Yeah, if Metal Gear was squad based, had no stealth and a shitty production and art design.

@John: Is that for real? That's some of the most amateurish writing I've seen outside of the twelfth grade.

I will be faithful to that dumb bitch Liara, but what decisions do you guys stand by?

Paragon: Save the Council, don't hand over the tech, save the queen alien, suggest Anderson as a council member.
Renegade: Let those moronic fucks die, don't hand over the tech, give the queen an acid bath, promote Anderson as the leader of the new reich.

I'm doing a total renegade run the this month.

I'm going to do a true-to-self playthrough, just want some reasoning behind why you guys chose what you chose. I don't care about Paragon or Renegade.

Also, why is Liara a dumb-bitch? She's better than space-biggot, hillbilly Ashley.

Actually what I said is not totally accurate. My playthrough is going to be renegade leaning, but opening up enough things to experience in ME3 (ie, I'll let the rachni live, because I think they'll play a part in ME3, I won't kill Wrex, etc)

I'm not a believer in all paragon or renegade playthroughs. I always try to do what I think my Colonist/Sole Survivor Shepard would do.

Let the council die - they demonstrate again and again throughout the first game that they are not equipped to handle the Reaper situation.

Tell Cerberus to fuck off - that Reaper creation is an abomination and needs to be put down.

I am always torn on the Rachni, but ultimately let them live. Wiping them out would be like the Reapers wiping us out. It will take them a long time to rebuild to the level that can threaten the Council races again, and there are more pressing threats.

Andersen is always my choice for Councilor - this is about to be a full scale war, and the current ambassador is even less effective than the old council was. Put a military man in power for this kind of conflict.

Bonus: Let the prisoners on the asteroid die - if the Batarians get away to do this again, billions could die if Shepard isn't handy to fix it. Plus my Shepard just doesn't like Batarians.

I just did it to farm points so that I could unlock other conversation options. Since the options are kind of limited in the first place, and it's not like you're actually roleplaying your character. You're roleplaying Shepard.

Also, why is Liara a dumb-bitch? She's better than space-biggot, hillbilly Ashley.

True enough. I'd not use either of them if there was a better option for my squad setups; although I've almost never needed Liara for anything ever, yet Ashley is very flexible and easy to fit in.
