And if anyone has any other questions they'd like to add, feel free to add them :)

OK, so we all know that this kind of thing is damn near impossible, but it's still fun. To that end, I fully expect to slap my forehead when I realize all the music that means a lot to me that I forgot here - did this pretty fast. Still.....here's an idea:

Top 10 favourite bands? (NO ORDER)
ISIS, Grateful Dead, Sigur Ros, Tool, Dead Can Dance, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Opeth, Mercyful Fate

Top 10 favourite albums?

Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Mercyful Fate - Mellisa/Don’t Break The Oath
Black Sabbath - everything through Born Again
Isis - Oceanic
Saxon - Power and the Glory
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffitti
Tool - Lateralus
Grateful Dead - Can’t choose just one
Dead Can Dance - The Serpent’s Egg

Preferred metal sub-genre?
Doom, Stoner stuff

Favourite guitarist?
Mikael Akerfeldt - Opeth (writes amazing riffs, and his solos are always good, even though solos tend to bore me these days).

Favourite drummer?
Danny Carey - Tool

Favourite vocalist?
Have to put two:
1. Ian Gillan (hands down)
2. Bruce Dickinson
Dio would be in there somewhere, but a few down the line, and only up through Holy Diver (that includes Rainbow and Sabbath stuff).

Favourite bassist?
Well, you know, Steve Harris. Oh, and the guy from Tool always gets my attention; Justin Chancellor

Favourite keyboardist?
Various people from Deep Purple and Rainbow

Favourite composer?
Probably Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth - too many to mention though.

Favourite lyricist?
Robert Hunter (Lyricist for the Grateful Dead)

Favourite post-1990 band?
Honestly, for metal, I don’t think you can beat Bruce Dickinson’s two great solo albums (Chemical Wedding, Accident of Birth), so I would say his band at that time was the "best" metal band of the 90s.

Favourite post-2000 band?
ISIS

New band that you're most looking forward to future releases from?
Absolutely obsessed with Hammers of Misfortune and Sloug Feg right now, and both should be putting out new records soon. Classic old school stuff. VERY GOOD!

Band you'd most like to see in concert? (That you haven't seen yet)
I’ve had the good fortune to see most of the stuff on my list (I live in San Francisco, so, we get a lot). The BIG missing one is Dead Can Dance, and they are doing a reunion tour this year. I check the site every day (American dates have been "coming soon" for awhile). After that, obvious stuff like Zeppelin which will never happen. No big deal though, I’ve been lucky to see a lot of bands at cool times. Maiden, Opeth (during acoustic tour AND two heavy tours), ISIS, Dio, Metallica, well, tons.

Ah, shit. This is like an IQ test...too many questions, too limited by boundaries. I'm just gonna fill out this survey on the whim; all answers are off the top of my head (which might be the most honest results possible).

Top 10 favourite bands?

Favourite post-2000 band?
I honestly don't think I even own an album from a band who's first album is post-2000. Oh I have one, Talon. They are pretty good.

New band that you're most looking forward to future releases from?
New band? Don't know. But I look forward to all Pink Cream 69's new releases because I know they won't disappoint. Their latest (and their 9th) studio album, which came out last year, is probably the 2nd best album they have ever done! I can always rely on them for a fix of excellent big chorus catchy well written, well played and well produced melodic hardrock!

Band you'd most like to see in concert? (That you haven't seen yet)
Alice Cooper, with his whole theatrical stageshow.

Somebody put John Arch for favorite vocalist(s), and I almost did. So, I'm adding him to my list (below Ian Gillan and Bruce Dickinson). He's just amazing. Trans-Siberian, I'm assuming you bought is solo ep of late. I just wanna give that a sales pitch here. Anybody on "old-school" who doesn't have it should RUN to the store. One of the best resurfaced old-school things to EVER come along. Man, I must have listened to that EP about 1000 times, and I still put it in every few weeks. Just fantastic. That record gives me goosebumps.

Yeah, I got it the day of release. I was a Fates fan back in the day, and had heard the MP3 for Relentless on the Net. I keep crossing my fingers that he'll make a whole album. I'm sure you do too. I don't know a lot of people who bought it, but those who did (and those I forced it on) agreed that it was amazing, which it was (and is). Ha. It is, simply put, goosebumps from the first note to the last. Seriously, I say it stands up there with any list of all-time metal classics. And I would even go so far as to say it eclipses the records he made with Fates Warning, good as they were. I chose it as my "record of the year," last year....and it was only an EP!
John fucking Arch!

No real point to this post, I realize, just singing the man's praises.

Glad to see John Arch getting his due here!

He is amazing - as Hawk stated, GREAT melodies! The "Guardian" album is just superb...total classic from start to finish.
And, last year's EP was also great, as others have stated.

also glad to see folks mentioning Overkill's "Years of Decay", which is, IMO, easily their best, and one of THE BEST thrash records ever released - including the works of Slayer, Megadeth & Metallica. "Years" has more depth & emotion, power & energy than almost anything out there.

Gustafson ruled.

Hell yeah I've got Twist of Fate! I bought that when it first came out in 2003 and it stayed in my player for about two weeks straight! I couldn't believe that John Arch finally blew the dust off his vocal chords and returned to writing and recording music. It's his calling in life and it pisses me off that he isn't utilizing it. Even if he hates touring and band politics, he should at least still record music as a solo artist like he did with ToF. Arjen Lucassen of Ayreon has made a pretty successful career of creating music that doesn't tour live. John Arch can do the same thing.
