GMD Poll: Top 10 Metal Albums of 1995

2) Storm of the Light's Bane by Dissection
Can't resist the night's sweet blood...

"You know, I've come across many BM fans who believe that Dissection was just generic melodeath posing as black metal (I know, hilarious) but the thing that makes the band so great is the fact that it's not just the sound but also the melodies that make the music sound the way it does. The Somberlain and Storm of the Light's Bane have this artistically-crafted and unique kind of malevolence to them which is why Dissection is considered so influential. I don't even know what the hell they meant with that statement. While being much more melodic compared to other BM bands, they still had that rough production quality that gave it its coldness." - @Talos of Atmora

Insanity is contagious, I speak from experience...

"Just listened to Die Healing,a brilliant album but a rotten and unhappy one as well.No other album I know of really has the genuine atmosphere of filth that can come from drugs and the shit. Its a fucking awesome album but I always feel a bit sorry for them when I hear it and knowing a bit about the history of the band." - @JontRevolting

Even though I only gave it a 9 it really pleases me that Saint Vitus got number 1 and Dissection didn't. It's a good album but ranking it higher than Graveland is just silly.

so darkthrone missed out on the top 10 somewhat surprisingly, ALKAHEST didn't even make double figures and nor did onceuponatime forum darling UNITED ARYAN EVIL, immortal, gamma ray, absu, kataklysm, fleurety or dismember. SLAUGHTER OF THE SOUL got a single point.

i get why people wouldn't consider them the best of the year but not liking vitus at all is kinda strange to me, they're such an intense and deranged and expressive band, not to mention uber consistent. s/t is still their best album to me but this one's close to the top.

Not making a list =/= not liking at all. Don't really need to explain that. And i find St. Vitus to be a pretty overrated band anyway, especially amongst a certain type people. Just not my cup of tea

Shit my .5 point move from death to dream theater cost it a spot. I only did it so that dream theater album would show up in the double digits list, but then Ozz helped so I should have given the .5 back to death. Oh well.

If we're being realistic here that Death album deserves the #1 spot for 1995 metal as far as influence and staying power. That Dream Theater album totally deserves more recognition though as it is one of their best, easily #2 by them for me. After that it's Awake at #3 and then things get murky.
