GMD Poll: Top Ten Albums of 1984

boy oh boy is counting the results gonna be fun for this one
To make it easier for you, I have now put albums 4 to 7 into a specific order after giving them another spin, though I'm still not 100% sure.

also jesus, as much as i love fates warning i don't think i could justify having NoB even top 20 in a year this stacked lol
Well, this is all about our personal favourites, isn't it? I was a bit surprised myself, but "Night on Bröcken" got more spins from me than the albums ranked below and after re-listening to all of them - I hadn't listened to most of them for a very long time -, I've come to the conclusion that the order in which I ranked them reflects my current personal preferences. Maybe my list would have looked a bit differently way back then - with the exception of Metallica being at no. 1. There's actually a very huge gap between "Ride the Lightning" and any other album mentioned in my list for 1984.

1. Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead
2. Manowar - Hail to England
3. Manowar - Sign of the Hammer
4. Metallica - Ride the Lightning
5. Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith
6. Iron Maiden - Powerslave
7. Anthrax - Fistful of Metal
8. Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales
9. Saint Vitus - Saint Vitus
10. Bathory - Bathory

i like sortilege a great deal but i recall that one is their weakest release. hasn't really figured into my thinking in such an insanely great year.

I really just haven't been that floored with Sortilege and haven't really listened to them enough to have any authority to put them on my list when the following albums I am just far more into. Holy shit I never realized that Manowar put out 2 awesome albums that year.
  1. Mercyful Fate – Don't Break the Oath
  2. Cirith Ungol – King of the Dead
  3. Saint Vitus – Saint Vitus
  4. Bathory – Bathory
  5. Trouble – Psalm 9
  6. Manowar – Hail to England
  7. Jag Panzer – Ample Destruction
  8. Wolf – Edge of the World
  9. Manowar – Sign of the Hammer
  10. Medieval Steel - Medieval Steel

Kinda forgot about that Medieval Steel release since I tend to ignore EPs and Compilations but I might just have to stick it in there and bump out that WASP album, unfortunately...

That Wolf album is better than that Metallica album, just saying. Iron Maiden was really close to making my list as well, as it does contain my favorite Iron Maiden songs, I just felt I prefer the other albums more, even if they aren't the best.
