I looked through about 5 pages of the RYM list and couldn't find anything that I have any strong feelings about so I'll sit this one out.

Achilles? Not bad. But i would rather be compared to Diomedes, especially here where he's annihilating everyone...

4. Weakling - Dead as Dreams
5. Dark Moor - The Hall of Olden Dreams
6. Primordial - Spirit of the Earth Aflame
7. Mythological Cold Towers - Remoti Meridiani Hymni - Towards the Magnificent Realm of the Sun

9. Deströyer 666 - Phoenix Rising
10. Devin Townsend - Physicist
11. Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris

Forgot about Dark Moor, if there is time I will listen to that album again and remind myself if I like it enough to list it. EDIT: Yup, I do.

Tempted to be a contrarian and rank Procession #2... it's only my 5th favorite Chasm album or so. It's a lot tighter than the subsequent albums but also less epic, and the sound is too clean for The Chasm. But it's still fantastic. Phylactery, how could you list the high points of the album and leave out the best song of them all, Return of the Banished?! EDIT: I might actually like Cosmic Landscapes more... I keep forgetting which I prefer, but that 1-2 punch is definitely the peak of the album for me.

The best song of this year is on an album that didn't even make my list, though:

Epic list, this is the only thing on it I haven't heard.

Thanks. By the way I checked out the Atrox album you listed, it was fucking garbage, why would you recommend something like that? If I wanted to listen to a retarded opera singer have an orgasm I would... well, I guess I would listen to that Atrox album. But why would I want that.

You didn't recommend it directly, but you said it was weird and brilliant and deserved to be on more lists. As a resident weird-metal-liker, I took that as a recommendation.

I wish Oracle Moon was on more lists, myself. I think I'm the only one to list it so far. Have you heard that album, @Phylactery ? Curious to know if it was at all in the running for you.

Well, ain't like Atrox aren't weird and the thing about weird is that there's no guarantee you'll like it.

If you take out the retarded part, since it's not true anyway, then it sounds quite appealing actually.

I don't know what kind of operas you listen to, but clean vocals - however crazy they might sound - don't automatically equal opera (well, maybe for some people they do). I can fully understand that people don't like these vocals - I assume the majority here wouldn't -, but while her vocals might sound crazy/weird/strange/unlistenable (to many people), Monika surely isn't retarded. If you actually think she is, I'd like you to read this - admittedly very extensive - interview and then explain to me what exactly constitutes her retardedness.

2000 is one of the years where I don't have a huge catalog of material from, but I think my list is still solid:

01. Mayhem - Grand Declaration of War
02. Nile - Black Seeds of Vengeance
03. Primordial - Spirit the Earth Aflame
04. Old Man's Child - Revelation 666 - The Curse of Damnation
05. Thanatos - Angelic Encounters
06. Immortal - Damned in Black
07. Saturnus - Martyre
08. Die Apokalyptischen Reiter - All You Need is Love
09. Sabbat (JP) - Satanasword
10. Grief - ...And Man Will Become the Hunted

Why do all you cocksuckers wait til AFTER the posted deadline to squeeze in your lists? I was expecting my Monday to be filled with a glass of whiskey and the first 3-4 entries of the top 10. Instead I'm sitting here with my dick in my hand having to read your shit-tier lists.

EDIT: Actually, the lists aren't half-bad, carry on.

Are you by chance a fan of Kate Bush?

10. Devin Townsend - Physicist

I decided to check this out.
Didn't hate it, except for a few songs which I thought out-and-out sucked mostly due to some horrid drum sound and nu-metal sounding vocals.

"Planet Rain" for me was the gem, after I finished the album I went ahead and played that track on its own again.

Did you read the interview? Actually, I was a huge fan of her in the early nineties and her collaboration with the Trio Bulgarka on "The Sensual World" got me into Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares/The Bulgarian Voices "Angelite" (which I've seen live several times) way back then. However, over the years/decades, my interest in her music has decreased gradually, though I still appreciate her work. Nowadays, I rarely listen to her music. When I do, it's usually her most original/unconventional album "The Dreaming" (which is still my favourite), followed by "Hounds of Love", on which I like - vinyl-speaking - side B, thus the experimental concept-part "The Ninth Wave" - "Waking the Witch", "Jig of Life" and "Hello Earth" are some of my overall favourite songs by her -, much better than side A.
