I'm taking a pass since I've seen like three 1983 movies and I'm not gonna invest 14 hours on a thread, but my recommendation from this year is Koyaanisqatsi. Amazing what you can do with time lapse photography set to Philip Glass.

Koyaanisqatsi is great, but wrong year (82).

Sean Penn tries to rip off a Puerto-Rican rival of his, it goes wrong and his friend gets killed and as he's trying to get away he accidentally runs over and kills the Puerto-Rican guys 8 year old brother, so he rapes Sean Penn's GF as revenge while he's in prison. Then they both run into each other in prison.
