YYYYYEAH................
You knew it was only a matter of time before i saw this thread.
my take on the 3 albums:
The Key - Amazing old-school Florida style DM/thrash metal, tons of catchy riffage, space atmosphere and keyboards, constantly good guitarwork, etc, etc... this one is actually my least favorite, although its the album that made my jaw drop and get me into this band
Thresholds - It doesn't get any better than this. seriously. Some of the most amazing guitarwork ever is on this cd, its uber-complex, catchy, melodic, heavy.....songs like "Arctic Crypt" (that solo, omg), "Tribal Vodoun" (first and last minutes, aghhhhhhh so good), "Subterranean Infiltrator" (guitar harmony at 3:31 is the greatest ever), etc, are some of the greatest songs ever..... the ultimate guitar album for me.
Ethereal Tomb - Different, yes, but still amazing, show Nocturnus from a much darker and more atmospheric angle, "atmospheric death metal" is the best way I can put it, guitar work is still amazing as usual, improved drumming (MUCH improved, i love the drumming on this cd), improved vocals, improved production, "Orbital Decay", "The Killing", and "Paranormal States" flat out rule, ranks up easily with anything else they've done, great album, my 2nd fav.
so in other words, you NEED thresholds. its not as thrashy or heavy as The Key, but it is simply amazing, more complex, deep, adventurous, etc..... Nocturnus are my 3rd favorite band behind Neurosis and Morbid Angel
