I've been hearing people saying Grind has more in common with punk than metal, and therefore is a subgenre of punk, not metal. Now, I haven't heard all that much grind, but what I've heard definitely has way more in common with metal.. the blasting drums are metal, the buzzsaw guitars are metal, everything is metal... I really can't see where these guys are coming from.

Grindcore is more into death metal.......
The only common thing with punk is the image and attitude.... but this doesn't happen with all the grind bands anyway....

And what's the difference between Grindcore and Deathmetal?!?!?

Grindcore:
Pig Destroyer
Cephalic Carnage
Hateplow

Sounds a lot like death metal to me.

Very early grindcore was very much related to hardcore and punk. Later grindcore has been influenced a lot more by metal. Like all genres, there are many influences put into the mix. That is why grindcore seems so much like metal these days.

Try listening to Napalm Death 'Scum'. It is a lot more hardcore/punk than later Napalm Death.

Hey Schraiber... you from GameFAQs?

Anyway, as I said before...

Grindcore grew out of punk, this is true. However, most grind bands today have far more in common with metal than punk (Cephalic Carnage, Soilent Green, PIG DESTROYER).

Grind is hybrid of metal/punk, with each influence occasionally overshadowing the other. Napalm Death has much more punk influence then bands like ****... I'm Dead.

I've listened to Dillinger Escape Plan, from what I know a Grindcore band, and its much closer to Metal than it is Punk. Also if Im not mistaken, Napalm Death are one of the founders (or at least one of the best bands in Grindcore) of Grindcore.

Actually grindcore is hardcore taken to extreme, nothing metal about it. Just because some bands mix grindcore with death metal nowadays, doesn't mean that grindcore itself was more metal a genre nowadays.

Because they have different roots. Grindcore developed from anarcho-punk, whereas Death Metal developed from thrash. They have of course cross-pollinated to the point where the distinction is largely hairstyle-based, but if you compare earlier grindcore like "Scum" to earlier Death Metal like "Scream Bloody Gore" the actual musical difference is marked.

Oh yeah, so is The Berzerker good or bad music? I'm sure plenty of people would say 'bad', whereas I would argue a vehement 'good'. Exactly, that's why we have genres; they're more objective and more set so we don't become juvenile arguing over what's good and bad. Genres mean we don't have to get personal about describing music, at least, not as much.

Of course, that's not the main reason why genres are genres, but it fits for this discussion.

And yes, grindcore came from hardcore and punk, but who cares when it's considered and merged with metal so much nowadays anyway? Ancient history, listen to it and just enjoy. =)

Yeah, it's not so much different to the death metal I listen to... so it's all brutal shit that I like, so whatever you would like to call it....
