Guitar Tone Competition 2

Haha, maybe :) Just saw the number of participants and realized that it would be really hard to listen to all these tracks and decide for one.
Also because many of the people in the contest are obviously pretty good judging from there previous stuff posted here, so many tones will most likely be really good. Easier to pick a favorite(s) from just a couple of tones.

Its overthinking things, because I already sorted this out the previous competition. All is well

Do we have to inform you if we get a user name change?
I'm currently waiting an on UM moderator to change my username

Just make sure the name you put in your files and email is the name you'll have when the voting begins.

You have to submit the files in the prescribed format. If you don't I won't accept it. I just received an email with just an mp3 file and a different title.

Here is a good question... If we submit our files, can we resubmit again before the deadline and 'overwrite' our previous submission?

Reason I ask is because I sent mine in already, and I'm starting to think I could do a slight change to make it better...

Although it's understandable if we can't do this, probably a lot of work for you to sift through all the files being sent to you...

Will the files be processed after we sent them in? Like a limiter with the same settings on everyone's version?

only processing that may occur is that we lower the volume of the guitar tracks and put them on top of the original supplied backingtracks if there is master bus processing or the backing tracks have been made louder, like it reads in the readme

Sorry to disappoint but in the readme is says one submission only, so make it count. I'd rather not go back on the rules now, to avoid confusion. I don't want people complaining later on that they would have improved it too, but the readme said one submission.

Hi Mark and Anssi ,

I have spent this weekend reamping like a maniac ( its so much fun !! ) and I have discovered
that the backing track has heaps of head room. It is quite easy to make the guitars too loud
for the backing track and I was just wondering, if my submission is such that the guitars
overpower the backing track will you reduce the level of my guitar track so that the judges
get a consistent level for all submissions or will you leave my guitar track as it is.

Please note that my submission ( combined guitar + backing ) never exceeds 0dB.

To ease our job and to avoid dissapointment caused by any possible volume dropping, please make the guitar-backingtracks balance sound as good as you can. We will leave the guitar level as is, unless we think there is something wrong with with the submission.

We left good amount of headroom on the backingtracks so you can actually drive the guitars really loud too if you want without having to sacrifice the tone because of the volume limitations. I was originally going to leave 2 more dB headroom, but lolzgreg thought it was too much, so when there is 60% less headroom, the submissions hopefully will be hopefully more consistantency in volume.

In my opinion I got a pretty ok tone with somewhere between 2-3dB's headroom left in the mixdown, that way they won't overpower the drums too much.

You have to remember that eventho there is a cake (that is no lie), there was no prize when this originally started few months ago. The main reason for this competition is SHARING THE INFORMATION how to get a good tone, that is why it reads in the submission terms that you have to tell the signalchain. When the voting time comes and each round ends, you can always ask how a certain tone was archieved even if the tone didn't advance to the next round.

umm.. I know this suggestion might be abit difficult to implement, would it be possible to give all the entries a detailed judgement of their tones by a panel/veterans. I mean, the objective of a competition is to help improve right? Or does this sound like too much of a hassle?

Unless there will be volunteers (marcus, greg, ermz, lasse, glenn, others?) who want to comment on all entries, then I guess it's not possible. But in the previous competition people commented during the voting, like "H sounded cloudy" and something along those lines, so hopefully you will get some comments :)

Ah I missed that part.... No big deal though, my guitars were just slightly loud, but now I think that's a good thing, since it is about the guitar tone anyway.

That's another thing I overlooked when I submitted... As long as I explain the chain at the end(if it makes it that far) am I still good? Or should I just send the chain info now via email?

If you email me the info I'll add it to your submission folder. If you explain the chain at the end, that's fine too.

:kickass:

Submission sent! Hope that myspacemail works like it should... Never tried sending emails from that site before, fingers crossed!

Just checked, and I have it. Thanks!

*edit*

You sent me 1 mp3 file. Please read the instructions about what to submit.
