I never said they always used them, but seeing as you know who buckethead is, Ill take a stab in the dark, and say you're a guitar player, and will agree with me, that playing in a "drop tunning" is not "cheating" unless you make it cheating. I play on standard E. personally, I think dropping the D is just necessary if scales are mixed w/ powerchords. dropping the C is far too low, I dont like it.

Well then, sorry bout that. But I did take quite a bit of offence at being called "rythm guitarist" as I paly lead guitar in my band, and recnetly audtioned for jazz music school, and I just happen to like playing thicker strings, one of the main reasons being that I tune down for my bands stuff to C stnadrad, and you jsut cant play 10's in C. But I like the barb wire like feel of 12's in D too, it gives yo alot to work with in bending and vibrato.

And about modes, it's the same fucking thing. Why should they be different? We are talking about the root note. Sure if there is a mode with a random flat in somewhere, call it flat, but that doesn't change the fact that the root note is still called C sharp. The modes are all relative to traditional minor/major keys.
