Not to argue or anything, but they actually don't. They play in standard 7 string tunning, all strings down a step (instead of B to E, you have A to D).

They tune down or detune 1 step.

In the traditional sense, drop tuning is tuning down one string.

For example: DADGBE is drop D.
or Double Drop D. DADGBD

Tuning down isn't really "drop tuning" per se, but....I can see where someone could assume one for the other.

So instead of having BEADGBE we have ADGCFAD

Drop tunning would be AEADGBE

well i've now figured out that at shows alexi's black guitar = D standard, and his white guitar = drop C. not that i'm pissed or anything, but i liked the standard, it was more challenging. all the new album is in drop, so the powerchords are just 1 finger. wondering if any other guitarists agree or disagree?

No doubt. I never use drop D. Hell I barely ever tune down

All of Paul Gilberts Solo work is D Standard so he can Sing with it.
RacerX is Standard with the exception of a few later Song which are a half step down. All the Mr Big stuff was Standard.

I can recomend the PGM because i have one. Its great for everything except drop C. I have the thinest 04 neck and dosent like being Tunned that low.
