Heathen Crusade III... what's the latest?

Jason Jordinson the IV - I've missed each headlining act the past 2 years. For Moonsorrow I was in a drunken stupor at the RC table and didn't pay attention to a note. At HCII during Bal-Sagoth, I was in the parking lot asleep with the heater on full blast. That doesn't mean I wouldn't be pissed senseless if a band the sub-par caliber of Dimmu headlined :heh:

 Nice twist on my name that I've never heard before.

As for the other stuff: :err: .

You guys are probably all well aware, but Agalloch does have some minor ties to MN. Jason lived out there for a while about a decade or so ago. I'm not sure how long he was there, but he might be up for a return. Surely he has a few connections left in the area.

i actually mentioned this awhile back, while the old 'the end records' forum was still hosted by UM. JWW responded to my post.

i think he lived here for like 10 years. he also stated that if he were to never return back to minnesota in his lifetime, it would be too soon. essentially.

 those agalloch guys sure are something

I guess that doesn't surprise me. I spoke to him a couple of times while he was there. We were supposed to hang out but we kept missing each other. I've never been the social type and was leery of meeting up with someone that tracked me down from a flyer they received in the mail. He never seemed very impressed with what was going on at the time. He was blown away by the fact that Dekker seemed to have control of the city.

Years later, after we had both moved away from Minneapolis and I learned that "that Jason guy" was in Agalloch I kicked myself for not making more of an effort to meet up with him. :zombie:

I was listening to Running Wild today and it occurred to me that even though they're fairly musically different, they'd still probably fit in at heathen crusade (pirates fit the bill just as well as any other heathen). Also, they probably would attract people from all over. just a thought.

I'd just like to put Einherjer's name out there on the HC3 list. Great viking band, popular, and definitely true to the theme of the crusade!
Since there's never been a single thread about them on RC, I'm going to guess that "popular" may be a bit of a stretch, even respective to the genre.

That said, is there on of their discs you'd recommend checking out?

Zod

Einherjer don't have a thread on RC? That's weird. We've definitely talked about them a bunch, but perhaps in random viking metal threads (as opposed to a dedicated Einherjer thread).

I even reviewed one of their albums for the 'zine.

I own their entire collection, including that fucking rare as hell digipak EP. Einherjer would have been an excellent addition to HC. May they RIP. :(

RiA - no one is saying the festival would be *better* if a bigger name band is brought on board (or at least a bigger band outside the traditional HC mold). All they're saying is that from a business standpoint it may not be possible for the festival to *survive* otherwise, that's all.

I think if it were up to me, I'd be aiming for breaking even, and not hoping for OzzFest like profits.

Imagine HC3 with the following triple headliners:

FRIDAY
Destroyer 666
Summoning
Agalloch

SATURDAY
Satyricon
Falkenbach
Helrunar

Pretty fucking impressive, eh? With a line up like that, who needs Amon Amarth, Enslaved, Dimmu, COB, etc?

I'd be there in a heartbeat....

....fact is, it would perhaps only slightly boost ticket sales. That's the scary part -- retaining the integrity of the fest but still managing to help them break even.

I just don't think HC will ever be a profitable event without it no longer being HC. :erk: Hopefully, simply breaking even is enough for the promoters.

No question about it, that would be awesome indeed.

You know, I think breaking even (or at least making a *little* money) would be good enough. Obviously I can't speak for them by any means, but I know how they share the passion as we do and certainly aren't "Koshick-like" by any stretch. If the festival could survive without the continued financial risk of kupshi and Mister Mayhem, you could bet our annual pilgrimage could be salvaged.

It's funny. If I were a filthy rich man, I'd put on the show just to bring the uber-rare-underground-cult bands over. Bands like ROOT or DARKESTRAH.

Tickets would be free!

I wonder how much it would cost to put on a "big" headliner, compared to say a Manegarm size bands? I wonder if by getting a big name band, but sticking with the same headcount & venue, there wouldn't be much $$ leftover to bring over a substantial number of support acts.

I mean, if it ended up being 'Cradle of Borgir' and 3 support acts, it wouldn't really be much of an HC fest.

If Enslaved weren't doing a headlining tour in November, I would suggest Enslaved as probably the best possible headliner at the moment.

Outside of them, Abigor would be an interesting headliner.

If we gotta go with the really crowd drawing, a band like Satyricon would probably fit... Not that I'd watch them (unless they played Nemesis Divina material).

I've always been curious to check them out, but no body really says that they are that great, or something.

you suck when it comes to listening to music for yourself

this is the 2nd thread in 3 minutes i've read where you whined about somebody else not liking a band, so you don't listen to them.

listen to Anathema and Lord Belial, then form your own opinion
