Im fairly new to metal, Im more into Metalcore myself (despite it being frowned upon), but I find the likes of Caliban, Chimaira, Bleeding Through, and Hatebreed easy to listen to and develop from.
I also like heavier metal such as Centinex, Slayer, Gojira so I dont just limit myself to one genre.

O i forgot to say, I also like some Black Metal too, like Dragonlord, 1349, Enslaved, Zyklon, Graveworm, Dimmu Borgir, Dark Funeral, Darkthrone, Gorgoroth..basically I like to "experiment" and see what styles and sounds I like.
Power metal puts me off though, too many long solo's and girly screams, but each to their own.

pyramaze is a good power metal band and dream theater but some of the others are pretty girly sounding

nice black metal taste...can't help with that too much though except by suggesting Naglfar...i am more death/thrash
