Hey what are your favourite bands guys?

That's the only question you asked! I don't like rap. Not my thing.

I can't believe the words hip hop have made it onto this forum....LOL!

As for thrash......one of my favourite metal sub genres......particularly Exodus, Death Angel and Kreator! There were some cool British bands around that time who never really made it big as well like Dearly Beheaded, Xentrix, Onslaught (I seem to be one of the few who preferred them with Steve Grimmet on vocals). Even bands like Flotsam and Jetsam and a much more technical and progressive band called Voivod!

Not forgetting a really cool German band called Paradox.....check out their album "heresy" if you can

I'm guessing hip hop is nonexistent around here eh?

Exodus is pretty good :) I just like to have many artists of different genres though so I'd never listen to bands like exodus these days

I'll check that out :) haven't heard of that band before though.

So anyway, does anybody here like hip hop or I'm just wasting my time asking this? LOL

I think we'll forget you even mentioned Hip Hop dude.......in my opinion it's a bit like asking if you like Girls aloud or Westlife! lol! It's a metal and hard rock forum really isn't it?

You won't have my affiliation for the Thrash scene unless you were growing up at the time I think......and I think the original Thrash scene was so much better and the new generation of thrash that is around today.

re: thrash, big fan of Metallica (first 3 especially) and Megadeth (especially Rust in Peace) but was never overly impressed by Anthrax or Slayer. Death Angel, Testament and Metal Church get a respectful mention too. :headbang:

Nah Thrash scene is good at both generations if the artist/band is the one who popularized it. Like Megadeth and Metallica for example :). Their thrash sounds like it was even 20 years ago...you've got to check it out yourself :)

Rust in Peace is undoubtedly Megadeth's best effort :) though I like all of their albums, even the hard rock ones that were intended to appeal the mainstream audience.

Metallica's first 3 are Thrash classics :) especially Master of Puppets.

Metallica sound nothing like what they did 20 years ago and, in my opinion haven't released anything of any quality since the "Black" album. Megadeth...different story. "End Game" was a great record and made "Death Magnetic" look very poor. To be honest Metallica would be whole heap better if they actually had a good drummer

Honestly can't share a high opinion of "Endgame", particularly in comparison to "United Abominations" which I felt was a more solid and varied effort but I enjoyed both nonetheless. "Death Magnetic" of course is nothing like what Metallica sounded like 20 years ago but I still thought it was a very good album...or maybe they could have put out anything and the fact that it's "not-St-Anger" would have made it well received :p Hetfield and Ulrich have always been Metallica's worst enemies....or maybe that's Dave Mustaine

Oh. I guess I wasn't clear enough...I meant Megadeth only when I said that it sounds like it was 20 years ago. Metallica has indeed became worse and worse, definitely not like they were 20 years ago.

It's a good fact to know that Dave Mustaine was originally in Metallica in their first years and they kicked him out of the band due to conflicts with James and Lars. He was drinking alcohol all the time like crazy as well....when he formed Megadeth all he wanted was revenge. I think he got his revenge by now :)

Death Magnetic is actually pretty good but Megadeth has definitely achieved more than Metallica has, despite not winning as many grammys as metallica did....grammys doesn't mean shit. :)

Endgame is really an amazing album also. Beats Metallica's Death Magnetic for sure Steve! :)

As for Metallica's drummer(Lars Ulrich), well, I don't know if he's as bad as you're saying. But obviously he's not great :/...if you've heard Metallica's St. Anger before, you can hear how terrible the drums sound.

NP - Metallica's St. Anger :). I must hear that terrible noise of the drums again LOL

I think they aren't enemies anymore as evidenced by the special big 4 show in Bulgaria a while back. Dunno if you've heard of it. :) if they were still enemies they wouldn't play together, doesn't that make sense?

I meant historically. I don't think Megadeth sound the same 20 years ago or that Metallica have got "worse and worse" or that Megadeth have "acheived more" - how is that even quantifiable?

Wtf is quantifiable?

I meant that compared to Metallica, they sound much better these days and by "achieved more" I meant in terms of albums and influence. It's just my opinion, though. :)

Quantifiable means you can kind of count it, or measure it.

Can't say I'm that big into thrash myself, but I do have one or two Metallica's (Death Magnetic and the obvious Master of Puppets), and one of Megadeth's "best of"s which is quite enjoyable.
