Im in, No DI for me. I will play the riff.
Are we talking full mix stuff? Or just th guitars?
Backing track will be provided...it'll be about the guitar tone. Obviously, the guitar tone will have to suit the backing track or it'll sound out of place. This isn't about mixing and mastering everything though, its about the guitar tone.

DI's and a backing track will be provided. You can also record your own guitar instead of using the provided DI's, that'll be up to you. The competition will be about the guitar tone, not how well everything is mixed. That said, the guitar will probably be perceived as sounding better if they do fit the provided backing track.
Time to discuss some more specifics. What song/song segment are we going to use? We'd need something we can all live with, with decent backing tracks and DI's. I saw some As I Lay Dying stuff in another thread, so it might be cool to lift a 1 min piece out of that but I'm open to other suggestions. If DI's can't be found for an amazing backing track someone has, I guess I could make the DI's myself to post them up for others to use.
Also have to decide if we are doing rhythm guitar, lead, or both. I'm partial to just doing rhythm because I suck too much to play decent leads, but majority rules.
