How about a friendly guitar tone competition?

Wouldn't we not care on many levels? :D Honestly, I care about breaking the law it hurts people financially (or any other way obviously), but christ, this is just some forum antics

However, if you think there's a risk that it'd bring unwanted attention from "the man" to our little community, then I definitely agree on erring on the side of caution

I'm pretty sure we can find a backing track and DI's legally. If not, maybe one of the many bands on UG would be willing to submit backing tracks and DI's from one of their songs?

Well, I'm hoping to get this show on the road as soon as we agreed on a backing track + DI's to use. Then I'll post those up here, and give everyone a week or so to work on their guitar tone / recoring their guitar tone. You'd have until the deadline for submitting your work...which has yet to be set. About a week after the Backingtrack and DI's have been confirmed.

I wouldn't worry too much though...if this goes well I'm pretty sure I'll do it again later on down the road....

I'm in too, although I'm really new to mixing and recording...
But it's a nice way to see what I am up to already and can only learn from it.
If you need any DI guitars, I wish to play some stuff if you wish. (fully tuned to D)

Don't worry Calippo, I've only been recording for about 3 weeks myself :p I'm not going in expecting to win, just expecting to learn from others.

Thank you for your DI track offer! If we find a decent D standard backing track without DI's I'll hit you up on that. :kickass:

If anyone has nice backing tracks + DI tracks, please let me know.

I know Lamb of God has a producer edition out of Sacrament, maybe we can use the backing tracks from that?

I wanted to upload one of my new songs up for people to mix it this week, I wouldn't mind if it was used for thie competition but I don't have real drums :(. The song is a kind of a cross between Amon Amarth, Opeth and Keep of kalessin.

Not sure how the others feel about it, but I think that would be pretty cool! I wouldn't worry too much about not having real drums; I've heard pretty damn good programmed drums on these forums. Besides, its about guitar tone, not drums.

Would you be willing to post them up for us to check it out? If thats too public for your liking, maybe you can pm it to me so I can check it out? In any case, thanks for the offer! I'd just like to get as many options as we can, and then we can always decide which to use for the test.

Well I thought we could use maybe 2 minutes and a half of the song since it is 8 minutes, and the vocals are not finished. I think the part of the song I uploaded would be nice because it includes tremolo picking, thrashy chuggah chuggah riffing, etc, and there is little parts where the guitars are playing without drums/bass/etc.

If it works then I could upload a mp3 of the drums and the di of bass or even the midi of the drums, and the wavs of the guitar DIs. Don't know if it would be better to include vocals and keyboard tracks or not.
