That's right ladies, gentlemen, and other oddities...the time has come to vote for your favorite guitar tone. There are about 25 entries, which is far too many for a single poll. That's why I'll be making several thread, with 5 entries in each. The winners from these thread will face each other head on in the final thread / showdown of semi-epic proportions.

I'll give every round a couple of days to gather enough votes before moving on to the next round.

When voting, please keep in mind this is about the guitar tone, not the mixing. Some have louder drums and bass than others, etc. I did make sure every clip peaks at exactly -13db.

Without further delay, here are the first 5 contestants for round one.

A: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1010558/A.wav
B: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1010558/B.wav
C: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1010558/C.wav
D: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1010558/D.wav
E: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1010558/E.wav

http://drop.io/tonecomparison

theres all the clips posted so far adjusted so that the whole mixdown is -18dB RMS

If you recognise your own work, please keep it to yourself. Usernames will be made public in the end. Please place your vote, and post in the thread with your reasoning! When the poll closes in 3 days, I will post up the EQing graphs and CurveEQ files and single guitar files for the tracks. No usernames yet, those will come after the last round.

I voted for clip D, seems to be the most consistant and "pleasant". A is a bit too scooped and fuzzy, B is too muffled, C is thin and very unpleasant, D is decent, E would be my 2nd fav but a touch on the fizzy side IMHO.

Hope not to have offended anybody! :)

Chances are they won't be sure its their own work anyway  Only I know the truth!

I also voted for D, felt like the most balanced tone to me.

I vote E, I know it sounds a bit fizzy but still I like it the most, second would be D.
*edit* Now I voted I see the results, nobody for B yet, hmm... I'd say B is better then C imo. */edit*

my vote is on E mainly because of the presence it has, its sounds like D but more "in your face"

C has an awesome old-school Swedish death vibe, but I can't say it's my favorite sound overall, so my vote is E for the presence/cut over the slightly muffled (to my ears) D

I noticed that they were not at equal level loudness wise, but when I leveled them eqally to -18dB RMS I had hard time deciding between B, D and E, but I ended up liking D the most

They all peak at -13 db, I wasn't sure how else to do it. Might have gone with average db, but some of the entries have huge fluctuations, and I don't want to inflict hearing damage

If you guys prefer RMS I can do that for the next rounds...

E for me because it has more presence than d but d is a close second its just a tad to muffled sounding/buried for my taste, not to keen on the others

Interesting. :)

I voted E, as for me it's a good all rounder. I did like C as Metaltastic said, for the evil old-school Swedish death vibe. :headbang:
