Hey MarkG, I was wondering if you were going to post who made which clip and perhaps we could describe our signal chains so we can see how each of the tones were created?

Yes, I am going to post up who made which clip when the poll closes. I also agree it would be cool if the people from this round posted up their signal chains, so I'll def. ask them.

Haha looks like ill be staying up till 2 am to post the info

*edit*

Nah, I'm not going to stay up. I'd have to be up till 3:46 my time. I'll post all the info in the morning lol.

Alright, here is the info on these clips!

ActofVengence = A
Jevil = B
lolzgreg = C
mancha = D
MetalMiller = E
thedonutman = G

F wants to remain anonymous, so sorry no user info on him/her.

ActofVengence and thedonutman did very well, but the overall winner of this competition is lolzgreg, so congrats to you!

If everyone in this round could post up their signal chain and how they did it that would be awesome!

Note: These files have not been edited at all, volumes are how I received them.

Woooo! :devil:

Congrats to the other two runners up as well, nice tone guys!

We'll you guys will hate me when I tell you how it was done:

RME Fireface 800 Line Out-> John Cuniberti Reamp v.2-> Maxon OD-820 Pro-> Peavey 5150 II-> Mesa Rectifier 4x12-> Audix i5-> RME Fireface 800 Pre

I didn't effect anything, shouldn't have been done anyway.

I waited 'till last minute to enter and I was on my hour break so...

I LITERALLY looked at my cab, stuck the mic where I thought it would sound best, looked at my tone stack on the 5150II put it where I thought it was most appropriate. It was my two first and only takes (one for each side) and I submitted it.

Congrats! After listening to the clips again I think you definitely deserved to win.

If anybody cares, mine was TSS -> 8505 sim -> s-pres8 impulse -> Some EQing in CurveEQ. I also split the signal and snet it out to the Framus V30 impulse one after the same signal chain.

ActofVengence - Any chance of sharing yours?

Wonderful job with an impluse!

congrats man! would you mind sharing the setting for the OD820 and the amp?

All settings are at clock face:

OD-820: Gain 6:30 Tone 11:30 Level 12:15

5150 II: Pre 12:00 Low 1:00 Mid 9:15 High 11:45 Post 7:00
Resonance 1:00 Presence 4:00

Mesa Recto 4x12: Top Right Speaker w/ Audix i5 on the crease between the dustcap and the cone

Fair enough that my 5150II has a bias mod and new transformer (which I'm sure have SOMETHING to do with it).

I'll be posting more clips in the future of my own songs as well, I just haven't had time to mic up the bastard!

My chain was all software
Waves Tube screamer sim -> Line 6 Podfarm (just for the gate) -> Wagner Sharp MKII -> Sir2 with 2 Recabinet Ghandy impulses, EL34 I5 Cap Grill and 6L6 SM57 Edge 1 -> Waves Eq -> C4

Here's a Reaper project file if anyone is interested:

Actually Mark, I meant I only wanted to be anonymous while voting was going on :D So I was F, and I feel it would've fared much better with the bass lower in the mix, but I tried to match it to the level it was for the others; anyway, I doubt anyone needs to ask what my signal chain was! :D Anyway, congrats Greg, and Mancha/James as well! :headbang:

Marcus, I'm glad to find out I voted for yours! Your tone sounded the least like an impulse to me (even though many people did mic up cabs).

Now the only question that is left, how many people are making a curve-eq of lolzgreg's tone? :D

Hahahaha, well thanks Dan, I'm glad SOMEONE dug it (last place with 3 votes, oh the calamity :lol: Whatever, I blame the bass!)

Your tone wasn't bad Marcus, it just had this one particular quality about it that I would never hear on a pro recording, this WHOOMPH-y sound. I'm sure the bass being mixed as high as you did it was part of it, but who knows. I'm quite surprised I won, but I came on top on every round. NOW WHO WANTS ME TO REAMP FOR EM ;)

I guess that's the low-mids of the Dual Rec for ya; I love it so very much, but it needs a bass tone that can get the fuck out of its way! :D

Mark, thanks for taking the time to do this. Also to the guys that provided the tracks used.

......I would never hear on a pro recording...........

No offence to anyone but I don't think any of the tones are really near what would be used on a pro recording. There is something a little bit off about all of them, in some way. They are either (or a combination of) honky, fizzy, or dark in different proportions.
