How did you become part of the local metal scene?

well ok so my post did say too much on it's own. Yes, I consider myself a metalhead. No, I also don't know what a REAL metalhead would be (as opposed to a poser I guess? I don't even know, but whatever...). And yes, scene sounds bad, but I just want to get to know bands solely because my goal is to start a metal magazine of my own, so meeting the people, and meeting bands for the sake of interviews (and possibly getting into shows for free...cause even 10 bucks is a lot in college) would be great.

Hope that clarifies my priorities a bit.

Aren't you going to get killed for making this post?

Haha, I'm not sure you're serious or just kidding. But its not that bad you think. there are many Metal bands here in Iran and me,myself, like two of them : Arsames and Mordab.

There were various metal concerts (underground) in Iran. But the government is strict. For example they told me to cut my long hair and not wear my Burzum t-shirt when I go to University!

I only met other local metalheads through playing gigs and coming to gigs. It helps that my other guitarist and drummer have been in the scene before so they know who's who. There's a local online metal forum, that some people from the West Australian metal scene post on to advertise local gigs and blah blah blah but it's mainly the same people with very few new people joining it.

Most of my friends other than my band aren't metalheads, so otherwise I don't really associate much with the metal scene. I'd rather talk about music most of the time, so it's hard enough when most people in the scene would rather talk about other stupid shit and laugh at inside jokes in between themselves.

Besides, the only way someone would pick me as listening to metal is if I wore a metal shirt. Otherwise, I'm pretty clean cut.

When you say the government is strict, how strict are we talking? Are there stores that are legally allowed to distribute metal music and merchandise?

Half serious, half kidding. I know that the middle east in general has a lot of metal fans, despite disapproval by the authorities.

Actually the scene here is alright. My university has a metal club that puts on shows, holds events and it has roughly 300 members and about 40-50 active members who tend to go to the shows all the time and socialize afterwards. I count myself lucky in that regard.

Well, legally there were some few cases, but in general I should say NO. There isn't any legal store here that you can buy Metal music and stuff. But we don't give a fuck, there's always an illegal way here in Iran

haha, awesome! :kickass:

Went to my guitarists (in my powermetal band) cover band show.
Metallica, Megadeth, Whitesnake, Iron Maiden, Ratt.....
The show was on the northside of Springfield. White trash heaven!
Shit was funny to watch. Some drunk Bar Slut wanted to dance with me. I wanted no part of that. (plus I wasnt drunk enough)
Anyway, they were pretty good. Got at good look at him in a live setting. Cant wait to bring serious powermetal to Springfield!!!

Honestly, I would say stop being such a pussy.

If there is anything I've learned from living in N.Y and being "part" of any soft of "scene" it's that!

Nobody wants to hear that shit. esp metal-heads.

I want to go to Iran. Please tell your government to let Americans in as tourists.
