I bought a new car (the "I wanna be like Gugs" thread)...

?: 3x post

There is an Audi Allroad V8 up the street from me. I'm not an Audi fan in any way, shape, or form. But that fuckin' thing is one of the meanest sounding vehicles I've ever heard. No idea if it's stock or what, I've only seen two of them in person and I'm pretty sure the second was the same car but I was/wasn't wearing my glasses at the time.

lol @ the glasses comment

Anyway, you are referring to the last generation of allroad to hit these shores, yes? The current one is a $50000 4-cylinder. I've read that the old one was one of the most unreliable vehicles of all time

Greg did you have any other major issues with either VW besides the rattles?

and no way on Japanese stuff for me ... save for Subaru maybe

most of them are pretty clinical and feel disconnected from the road ... either Euro or Ameri crap for me

ASSUMPTIONS:
American = unreliable
German = expensive
Japanese = boring
Korean = why?

REALITY:
Cars = unreliable, expensive, boring, why?

I used to be super-biased toward Japanese vehicles but then I realized the above is pretty true. Now I purchase whichever vehicle will get me the most attention from the youth vote. Seriously though, teenagers working the Del Taco drive-thru adored my WRX. "Oh man that's so badass, I want one too... but the sedan." By the time I got the Mazdaspeed I stopped eating horrible food, so who the fuck knows what the kids like these days?

I owned a 4-cylinder Camry in the mid-90s. There was nothing noteworthy about its appearance or performance. But it was damn reliable.. which is all I was looking for at the time.

Not me. I actually think they've done a nice job with it stylistically.
I've liked the looks of Camrys for ages, but they are still suicidally boring behind the wheel. It's like an Accord without the personality, and let's face it, the Accord ain't exactly Thrill-A-Minute.

Well it is an Audi. :loco: And yeah, one of the older ones I guess. No fucking clue really, I pay zero attention to anything related to Audi. I don't even know why I hate them, they can be quite sexy, unlike most other vehicles.
LIES! You'd consider a VII GTI.
True, but I only really think of them in passing. Always on my list, but never near the top.

Actually, my GTI had to have its transmission replaced at 20,000 miles and it was an automatic. Luckily it was a lease and under warranty or it would have cost $3,800. They are good to drive, both the GTI and the Tiguan.

Agreed.

Some of the higher end Japanese stuff is pretty slick. And I think the stereotype with American cars is a thing of the past.

Zod gets a new car every 6 months. :loco:

EDIT: Since this thread started me/wife have had:

2001 Toyota Corolla
2000 Dodge Ram (regular cab, yay! V6 nooooo...)
2004 Subaru WRX
2010 Mazdaspeed3
2011 Mazda3

Funny that the Mazda3 is just a Corolla redux but infinitely more entertaining to pilot, even with the damn slobomatic tranny.

Probably going to be getting a used but newish Hyundai Elantra or Accent soon. I did like the way this lil Fiat felt at the State Fair, though. Felt like a pretty sturdy little bugger.
