I bought a new car (the "I wanna be like Gugs" thread)...

that's some good info, thanks erik. i mean i shouldn't complain. i have driven this car for 6 winters and i haven't had any serious problems (knock wood) besides getting it stuck a few times. funny story. one time my friend left my house after we were drinking some beers at like 3am (bad idea - stay in school, say no to drugs). it was snowing a bit and he for some reason decided to take a foresty back-road to his house to avoid traffic encounters. he calls me like 15 minutes after the departure and proceeds to explain how he accidentally drove his car up on a boulder and that he needs a ride. i didn't understand at the time, but when i got to him, his car was literally driven up diagonally on top of a 6 foot tall rock just a bit off the road. after a bit of "WAT..." from me, he got in and my car was stuck immediately in the snow/ice on the side of the road. we tried FURIOUSLY for about 90 minutes to get it out by any means possible but we totally failed. had to call his mom for a ride, and it was not a fun way as she was definitely already a cunt in my book. anyway, he was driving an s60 and it only did like $400.00 worth of damage hahaha. the s60 is also a fucking snow beast. moral of the story- don't drive in the snow if you don't really have to, or else your dad will have to tow your ass out with a huge Jeep

also don't drive drunk

woo-hoo! Check engine light is on in my Accord! I'm so happy. I can now add it to the long list of every single vehicle I've ever owned having a check engine light on at some point...and this one only after about 4000 miles of ownership. Here's to possibly a very expensive emissions control problem :kickass:

so... i have a good opportunity here. my boss just got a new E350 and he is selling his 2006 Saab 9-3 Turbo Wagon. He's a cool dude who is pretty well off so he is willing to help me out and allow me to make payments (since he knows that i can't get to work if i have a broken old volvo). it's looking like $12,000-$14,000 and I will be able to put like 3k down. It has 54,000 miles and is kept in excellent shape. he let me borrow it for the night and i like it quite a bit. lurch or any car guys, any words of wisdom? obviously i will be paying this off for a few years so i don't want to get wrapped up in some bullshit. thanks guys

edit: it is the v6 aero, btw

i love saabs but don't know their reliability history. I think markgugs had one some years ago he was leasing ...

look around the net for reliability issues ... I am always afraid for an out of warranty car that is still going to cost that much if anything small goes wrong, its out of your pocket.

hmmm...I really like them. Wonderful interiors with Volvo-levels of comfort. Front wheel drive for snow-driving abilities. Reliability is a bit dubious though. They were owned by GM at the time

Yeah, that sounds awesome. A wagon, too. I came very close to buying a newer model 9-3 myself this summer (but went the "safe" route and bought the Accord)

most saabs were built in sweden even when gm owned them so theyre pretty good

if this is the one ... it's HOT!
