I bought a new car (the "I wanna be like Gugs" thread)...

I can't fucking believe it ... another VW?

That being said, I like the Tiguan ... what kind of lease deal did you get?
I ALMOST thought of getting out when they had the $229 lease deal some months ago.

So I leased a new 2011 VW Tiguan. So far, I'm digging it.

They are pretty sweet cars. Very smooth ride... my mother had one for a couple of years and I drove it as my primary vehicle for like 3 months. Never had an issue with it, but we all sort of agreed that it started to feel sloppy around 50k, more than it should have. but this is an older model im talking about so enjoy!

side note:
would anyone be interested in a 1991 Volvo 940 Turbo Wagon? 178k but with an insane amount of new parts. hit me up for details, i'll let it go for cheap.

I think you probably had the Touareg Max, which is bigger and shares some stuff with the Porsche Cayenne ... the Tiguan is smaller and only came out a few years ago 2008, I think.

What do you want for the Volvo? do you have some pics ... was thinking to get an inexpensive 2nd car.

my car is kind of breaking down a little bit, it does not particularly enjoy the cold >:[

haha, do people drive these in america

178k ain't shit for a volvo 740/940, they are fairly frequently sold with 400k+ miles here and then they probably have a couple of years of life left in them, too

terribly boring cars though

2009, in the U.S.

During my conversations with the VW salesmen (who seem to be some of the most knowledgeable car salesmen in the business) he said the Touregs has a lot off issues the first few years, which have since been resolved.

This guy must have been a hell of a salesman to convince you to stay in the VW family.

Something tells me Greg is joking. In a couple hours he'll be on here with pics of his new Ferrari.

I had decided I wanted a small to mid-sized SUV, because I wanted something a bit roomier and I liked being higher up (when I had my Jeep Liberty). I had the GMC Terrain and Nissan Rogue on my short list, but hadn't really begun test driving cars. Believe it or not, the GMC is the #1 rated small to mid-size SUV on the market (according US Reports) and I just liked the look of Rogue. I was actually unaware of the Tiguan. I thought the only VW SUV was the Toureg, which costs more than I want to spend. When my dealer informed me they would eat my last four payments (not roll into my next car), I took a second look at their line up and discovered the Tiguan. The reviews, both professional and customer, were through the roof. I took it for a test drive. When they tried pressuring me into a deal, I told them I first had to drive the cars on my short list. They gave me a Tiguan for the day, to take car shopping. It wasn't even a contest. The GMC felt bloated and sloppy. The digital display on the head unit looked like something that was cutting edge in the 70s. The Rogue felt like it was made of plastic and those CVT transmissions are ass.

They ate the last four payments on my GLI, as well as the $350 turn in fee, made my first payment on the Tiguan and the dealer bought my GLI (which meant I wasn't responsible for any of the damage that the lease company would have dinged me for). When all was said and done, I got an SE (a $30K sticker), with a 15K mile per year lease, for 36 months, for $1,300 down and a $385 a month payment.

I wish.

still trying to figure out how he went from Mustang to Tiguan.
Part of it is, I fucked up my back when I was 20. I'm constantly tweaking it, causing it to tighten up on me. Falling down into the front seat of a Mustang and climbing back out, started to seem less and less appealing to me. Hence the decision to go to an SUV.

Maybe he's adopted a couple kids or something
My dogs are the only kids I'll ever have (not that I actually think of them that way). I'm way too much of a selfish bastard to ever have kids, adopted or otherwise.

That's a serious consideration for us old fuckers with back problems. That's about the same age I hurt mine. I havent been comfortable in a car since.

hahahaha are you kidding? i saw literally 6 people driving Volvo 240s in New York City today. over here, old volvos are like some of the most common first cars for younger people to have. 178k isnt a lot, but you have to pay a shit load to replace certain parts at around 150k with these cars. since i got it in 2004 (at 113k), I have had to replace:

control arm bushings
brand new exhaust system
turbo waste gate etc. etc.
mass air flow sensor
basically everything involving the ignition
and many, many other small things

still, i fucking love the car. nothing like an old-school turbo wagon. when i get rid of this, i will certainly get another volvo. trying to find a lower-mileage 850 in good shape.

lurch.. i doubt you want this car. it is mechanically in top shape but it needs a bit of suspension work and the exterior/interior are pretty much fucked. i have worked on a farm for over two years which means a lot of driving around while TOTALLY soaked or covered in brutal farm mud. i clean it out... not saying that there's mud smeared all over the inside but you can imagine what i mean. she's just old. i'll get some pictures. currently fixing the head lights after some stupid cunt drove directly into my lane and hit me. it was bittersweet because obviously getting in an accent is shitty, but my volvo totally mangled her car and i had pretty minimal damage from it :) guess that's the difference between a plastic car and a car that is a steel cage. probably asking $1200-1500. with a little polish i think it would be nice.

Greg I actually like some GMC trucks as well, but like you said, they are pigs, moving living rooms, no matter their size and fuel economy stinks.
The reviews on the Tiguan have been positive since it came out, mostly for driving feel. Surprising you liked it as it is based on the Jetta platform.

Nissan, i laugh how you always want some sort of vehicle in their lineup but realize it is serious ass. I mean really, besides the Z and GT-R I don't think they have a car i would do a double take on.

Overall killler deal on the lease ... I saw on their website they have 0 down / $279/month deals on the Tiguan S ... tempting as i could cut my car payment in almost half and pocket 3-4K from the sale of the Clubman (since I am not upside down) and be driving something new ... but not now.

Shoot up some pics of the car.

Max ... haha, yeah i think I would need something a bit "better" ... Post some pics and a final price anyway. if you want I can post it on the local Mini boards ... they love them Volvo wagons and a lot of people want a second car.

well okay. i occasionally drive a friend's 1991 945 (that's the actual model number of the 940 wagon fyi) and it is SLOW AS ALL FUCK. also my girlfriend's 1990 745. nothing happens when you press the gas. now sure, not the turbo engine (probably the smallest engine actually) but my lasting impression of all volvos i've driven is it's like driving a particularly boxy tractor. my AUDI 5000 wagon (which was a direct competitor to the 740/940) is so much more responsive and comfortable it is ridiculous, and it is also a large car with a dinky 1,8l 88hp engine

so, well, yep. have you considered SAAB 9000 if you want to drive a swedish car that is less boring
