I don't get it...

Falconer is another band to me that is very monotone nothing really special, but i feel i should like them because everyone seems to freak out about them, but i just can't. Maybe its the singer very weak to me

I don't know a great deal about Falconer, other than the albums I have are very enjoyable cheese. I was steered towards certain of their albums featuring Mathias Blad rather than other discs which had a different lead singer. Blad has a very good voice in my opinion.

This. I love the stuff with Blad singing.

I honestly don't think any of those bands are really very similar to Slayer. The others you mentioned aren't brutal OR evil sounding. That's really what makes the difference.
I would agree that none of those bands sound like Slayer. However, they also don't sound much like each other. Yet together they were the seminal bands that defined the genre and that period of time. And if someone likes all those bands, but not one of them, than to simply dismiss their opinion as "cheap" reveals more about your own biases. I get what Slayer was doing... I just don't think it's very good.

Sure, you can say Dream Theater can be compared to Pain of Salvation, but that's not really a good comparison for someone who really knows what they sound like.
Agreed. However, let me take your analogy a step further. If someone loved Dream Theater, Symphony X, Shadow's Gallery. Savatage, Kings X, Queen, Fates Warning and Queensryche, and told you they didn't like PoS, would you think their opinion was cheap or informed?

I've noticed it's actually a Prog/Power thing to hate Slayer.
If that's true, than who are all these people on this board defending Slayer? :loco:

I can see this if you weren't into thrash in the 80's, but came into it later. But to say you didn't like Slayer for the reasons you did don't quite make sense.
I'm not sure what you mean, when you say my reasons don't make sense. Care to elaborate?

lyrically they were ahead of the game tackling things no one dared touched.
Perhaps. But being lyrically daring, doesn't have any sort of correlation to writing good songs.

Most people who are fans of Falconer are fans because Blad isn't your typical metal singer. I can understand your typical power metal fan not being a fan of Blad's vocal styling.

By "everyone" you mean all five of their fans?

Actually, I've listened to Grime Vs Grandeur enough that the other guy has grown on me. I don't like him as much as Blad, but I don't hate the album because Blad isn't on it.

Sorry dude, I am probably OLDER than you and DON'T live with Mommy and haven't since I was 17 nor do I play a lot of video games except with my sons but have been listening to Slayer since they first appeared on a Metal Massacre comp album....there goes that argument!!! :fu:

Well... he did say "most Slayer fans". :loco:

I think the idea that a group of people can be stereotyped as having one characteristic or lacking in another, just because they listen to a given band, is baseless. Unless of course we're talking about Avenged Sevenfold fans... then I think we can agree that they're all whiny, Hot Topic-loving, posers. :D

Pretty much Zod...VenomGA, I was basically stating one dumb ass comment with another. It drives me nuts when fans of one band thinks everyone else are posers if they don't like "their" band. It's just silly. :fu:

In fairness, Slayer is the only band where it's right and necessary to do this....

No matter how much of a false I might think someone is for not liking say, Mercyful Fate, at the end of the day, I know where they're coming from because the King's vocals are definitely an acquired taste!

The only reason to be a metalhead who doesn't like Slayer is if you exclusively listen to My Little Pony metal or something.

Also re: Slayer vs Megadeth, Metallica, Testament, Anthrax, etc....Slayer has always had more in common musically with the European and South American style thrash than they did with the Bay Area & NY thrash bands. So while they're lumped in due to the time and place, musically it's more accurate to compare them to bands like Kreator, Sodom, Sarcofago, etc. Dark, dirty, overdose of Satan thrash.

Agreed. My only point here was, someone who's a fan of all those other bands, is very likely in a head space where there's a high likelihood of enjoying Slayer.

Really...are you being serious? I think the only one that actually takes Slayer serious is Kerry. I've seen interviews where even Tom laughs them off. By the way, I don't know if he is or not, but Tom comes off in interviews as a really down to earth, cool person.

I'll just forever be a poser. :dopey:

Now this is an accurate statement that I can actually agree with.

I like Wishmaster and Oceanborn a lot. That's about it though. Which is exactly why I don't intend on ever seeing them again. I read an interview that they don't like playing Wishmaster anymore...and they dropped all their songs from Oceanborn too. BOOO!
