I need a decent mp3 player.

That's half of it, since every fucking piece of metal & plastic in the world can simply play MP3s.

1 GB for $150? When you can get 30 GB for $300? Yeah, awesome investment.
i'm just saying i consider these 1 gb players still "decent". $150 ain't so fucking much for what the device can do. also the HD devices have some drawbacks you have to put into the equation, such as bigger physical size & fragility.

Flash media is WAY more expensive per megabyte than hard-drive. Therefore a $150 1gig mp3 player is as good a bargain as a 10gig hard-drive. Try running 5 miles a day with a hard-drive player, and tell me how good a deal it was then. It will die. Flash and hard-drive exist for two different reasons. As long as you don't need to be abusive with your mp3 player, just get a hard-drive player.

ha ha ha at running 5 miles per day

p.s. I am aware of the difference in stability & reliability between flash drives & HDs

I had to do a ton of research on mp3 players, when my wife decided she wanted one for her marathon training. I obviously wanted a flash player, but even then I knew she'd probably kill that. Throw it in front of a semi truck or something, you know.

Sure enough the first one died in less than a year. The second one has been going strong for like 6 months. She kills headphones by the week, it seems like.

im thinking of getting one for the same reason. can you tell me what happened? i dont like for things to break.

my friend kevin put his flash mp3 player through the washing machine by accident. So when it came out he put it in the dryer on airdry for 2 hours and left it overnight. Next day it worked fine.

Flash mp3 players are nigh invulnerable. Hard drive mp3 players require some babysitting, very sensitive moving parts here. We're talking about spinning a plate at 5200RPM with a magnet on a stick hovering half the width of a hair above the surface moving accross it to read the data. If those heads touch the plate at all. BOOM, head crash, all toast, no repair.

Flash mp3 players have 0 moving parts, and therefore are VERY solid. If she broke it, she must have dropped it. hard.

@DG - Get a flash mp3 player from some recognizable brand. You can get them in the $80 range with 256MB of memory and an expansion slot for SD cards. You can get a 512MB SD card for about 60 bucks. 1GB cards are around $100. (NOTE: all prices are in canadian dollars).

depends how much you listen to it. I'd buy one of those for my biking. I used to spend $16 a week on battereies for my mp3 discman. Most of those MP3 players last a lot longer on only 1 AA battery, or you can get some with lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. So in the end, you'd save a fortune on batteries pretty quick.

Also, the mp3 discman skips, the flash mp3 player does not. The flash mp3 player always won't die from activity.

cool beans. i'm probably going to ride my 60% broken bike once I get home in July and fucking injure myself. fuck yes!

I can't wait to get on my bike and go fucking huck some shit and race down tiny gnarly trails again..... *drools & fantasizes*

forks are fucked. Not worth overhauling them. Need to be replaced. The bottom out even if I just bunny hop. Rear disc brake needs to be replaced, it doesn't have any power in it. Rear wheel is fucked from a few hard landings. need a new hub and rim. Rear derailleur is dieing, i've had it for 6 years, it served me well. Need a new chain, and need to replace a broken front sprocket, i'll just throw in a chain guide. Ummmm... I think I need to replace the cable for my front brake and get fresh hyrdaulic oil put in, can't remember, it's been a while.

And uhmmm... I think thats it.

It was a Nike/Phillps mp3 player, and it just stopped playing. Nothing in particular caused it.

She know has one made by MSI. I got it for $60, and it has 1gig. So I bought it even though it is an unknown brand. More and more flash players pop up every day.
