I need a decent mp3 player.

ok, this thread is as dated as my musical tastes so I need your reco for a decent player ... 2gig or so is fine for about $100 ... I know there are a shitload of them out there.

I need one that I can dump songs in folders in ... if that is even possible.

will use it with an AUX jack in the car ... that's it ... I don't care about headphones and how good they are.

Not sure if there's a 2 gig Cowon Iaudio 7, but the 4 gig goes for ~$150. Flash based, and I hear this one has a battery life of "60 hours".

I have the Iaudio x5 and from my experience with that, and knowledge of others who have used a variety of other cowon product, they always put out top notch portable media players.

The big plus with cowon is that you can just drag and drop folders, no itunes or similar song loading programs to waste your time.

There are also older models by Cowon that are flash based and just as good, just without fancy shmancy new touch controls, I hear the u3 model is a good choice.

Good point on the extra high output of the U3. Especially in the case of hooking an mp3 player up to the aux jack in a car head unit, since typically they are very low level input. This means you'd have to turn up the volume much higher than normal for both the headunit and the mp3 player. The higher output from the U3 would help normalize the headunit volume.

The best overall for output is the D2 with 74mW, but its a pain to navigate through. The u3 is a great choice for road stuff though.

that's good to know ... never heard of COWON until RIGHT NOW ... Asian co.? ... checking it out now ...

They're from Korea I believe. You can find their stuff on Newegg, it's the easiest place to get it.

He wanted drag and drop, we're offering him that and superior sound quality. If you like Creative, that's fine too.

looks really feature packed for the price ... the aforementioned sound output level feature has me intrigued.

any opinions on the Sansa e260 from Sandisk? ... plays video as well !?!?!

Hmm, I've never used one, but it appears they're well built. You have to make windows show hidden files and folders for some reason though, as Sandisk decided to hide the music and video folders.

Lurch, buy the most expensive one you can possibly afford.
Do this with everything you buy from now on.

whats the purpose of this gadget? to store downloads?

whats the difference between an mp3 player and an ipod?

fucking gadgets people dont need.....

Go back to the woods. He wants one that features folder type drag and drop for his car, and ipods are gay as it is.

ended up getting the Sansa e260 from Circuit City for $99 ... 4gig ... plays video, photos and mp3 ... so far so good tooling around with it. very solid little bugger.

thanks for the advice on the Cowon ... but I did not want to get one site unseen and are a bit hard to find locally.

What's a good mp3 player for under $50? I honestly want something small 1-2gb. Still going to use my walkman, but I want one of these fucking things for an unspecified reason.

Will return in 8 hours after ye lads do all my leg work.
