I need a new job like you read about...

I have no doubt people must laugh at Tri-Staters for the money we spend just to live. :loco:

Yes, I do. And while I'm jealous of all the shows you get, I'd rather pay less and see fewer showers and have them be that much more special to me. *shrug*

I despise cities though, in fact, I despise all modern human structures. I want a log cabin in the middle of nowhere, and even that has to be quite overgrown with vines before it wouldn't disgust me. I'm a nature lover (but not a hippy/treehugger nutjob).

Moving away from NY would be an economically good decision if your job is easily relocatable. But it all depends on kind of area you like most, as you know. Besides cost of living, there are a lot of perks to living nearby NYC. Everything is at your frickin fingertips, for the most part...not to mention the shows, etc.

I'm glad to hear that your money anxieties will be washed away in the near future though. It's sad that we have to worry about such bullshit, but that's the type of world we live in. But, it's awesome that you two managed to still be well off during the entire transitional period. I wish you both luck. You deserve it anyways.

Hey thanks. OK this looks like I'm stealing your thread to talk about my woes! :loco:

Back to getting you a new job. What are you good at / what do you like to do? Do you have a dream job?

Yeah, that's not me at all. I have trouble maintaining my friggin' lawn. That reminds me, I need to buy some Turf Builder. :loco:

there is ... but this cabin in the woods lifestyle many here "dream" about ... well ...

...you forgot to add "with an internet connection." :loco:

no, you know I'm not saying that, but I've GOT to live in at least a civilized area, near a city of some sorts

Yep. Perhaps just not New York City. :loco:

Places supposed to be great for city & cost of living:

Chapel Hill, NC
Raleigh / Durham, NC
Phoenix, AZ
Seattle, WA
Denver, CO

By the way, the job postings at Starbucks HQ in Seattle are PHENOMENAL. Great place to work, great place to live (supposedly)...

....but rainy, and highest suicide rate in the country. :loco:

Haha, no prob. It's the RC Way!!! :kickass:

I am good at mostly anything if I am taught. :heh:

I like to work, and not sit behind a desk...that's about it really. If I am helping, that's a plus...not repossesing someones fucking furniture or bigscreen. Ya know what I mean? lol

Dream job would have somehting to do with music probably. But thats not feasible. Or something to do with the outdoors.

Just a thought, but have you considered landscaping? Landscape managers tend to do very well in this area. I assume you would need to study some sort of "landscape engineering" course (maybe an evening class?), and I'm sure you know where to find labor (mexicans)....

Outdoors
Well paid
Good hours

Amazing. Chapel Hill AND Raleigh/Durham? ;)

You can add Greensboro & Winstom-Salem to that as well; that entire area of NC is literally booming.

Don't know a thing about Phoenix, other than it'd be way too hot for me. But Denver & Seattle are AWESOME cities; I've said numerous times Seattle is my all-time favorite city not named NYC. HOWEVER, it's total bunk that it's affordable to live there. Next to San Francisco and parts of LA/San Diego, Seattle is the most expensive city to live in west of Chicago. We're talking $1200+ rent, and more $1 million homes than you can shake a stick at. And the job market took a BEATING with the dot com fallout of 2001-2003, though from what I understand, it's beginning to repair itself. I still say there is no city like Seattle for the perfect combination of nightlife, entertainment, sports, urban quality & outdoor things to do. Truly unique for the U.S.

I've worked landscaping before and it's not bad. Pretty decent money to boot. About the managing part though, I'd rather just work and not have to wrooy about employee bullsshit and all the extra bs that goes along with it. I hate managing people. They try to make me do it to an extent where I work now.

The reason I brought up construction laboring, is because if you can get a union job, you could make a SHITLOAD of money just by showing up and busting your ass. Great way to stay in shape and be satisfied with the end result/finished product.

Be honest, you're thinking of joining the mafia, right? :loco:

which is directly related to the winter weather. I suppose if you 90 straight days without sunlight, you might freak the fuck out too

I've been lucky on every visit to that city...spent about 45-50 or so days in Seattle, and have only had maybe 5 rainy ones
