Innovative bands of the past 25 years

I won't mention Priest , Maiden, Sabbath because they have a class all their own, and there needs to be no further discussion on how much they have done for metal.

Motorhead-I am not sure exactly when they got going, but if they fall in the 25 year mark..they should be here. Lemmy and his croak, dirty, gut level metal..that simple.

Venom/Bathory-these two bands pretty much got the whole Black metal thing going. Loads of Norweigans and other Scandinavian bands owe these guys.

Slayer-the fastest and most crushing of the Thrash scene. HIGHLY important to modern death and black metal.

Death-Pretty much started Death metal. RIP Chuck

Emperor-Pretty much THE Atmospheric Black Metal band. Plus, they never stagnated..the band evolved over 4 albums, continuing to push the limits.
(I am not a expert on Black Metal..if other bands did that sound first and better..correct me)

At the Gates-The band that kicked off Melodic Death. Often copied, but never replicated.

That's just off the top of my head

Ceremonial Oath, the little known In Flames-related band, was about on the same wave as At the Gates with melo-death, and perhaps earlier.

Agreed. Same with Amorphis, although they were more akin to the Entombed/Dismember/Therion school of death.

Well, there's four more innovative bands.

Nightwish, not maybe first girl leads or even Opera Metal, but i still think they got unicue sound and they have sold huge amount of albums for a metal band, any kind of.

Dimmu Borgir maybe for commercial Black Metal (or can you that an achievement...)

Moonsorrow for folkish viking metal (alltho maybe it's Bathory influenced)

'Copied' and 'replicated' are synonymous. :)

yes..but the point I was trying to get across is that people try to copy their sound, but can never truly do it. It was a sort of pun.

Ahh yes...how could I forget Possessed? The band that a certin member of Primus won't admit he was in.

What the flying fuck are you talking about? Larry has mentioned Possessed several times in interviews, and usually by his own accord.I have a fucking bootleg from 95 where Primus cover Seven Churches with Ler on vocals.
Stop starting bullshit rumors.

I have interviews in guitar mags from the Early 90s when he almost seemed he was shying away from mentioning he was in Possessed. Then again..he might have been messing with the interviewer or he just wanted to focus more on Primus, as Possessed was in the past.

Calm down man..I may have taken the interview wrong.
