hey all,

since there are quite a few Maiden fans on this board some of us thought it might be time for another collaboration.

now, there are a couple of things we should decide on:

1. who wants to contribute and play which instrument

I personally haven't been involved in the previous collaborations but would like to contribute by playing bass. Steve is my idol and I can get pretty close to his tone.

2. the song(s)

I think everybody should be allowed to name the song he wants to cover. then whichever song gets the most consensus and can most faithfully be reproduced is the one we'll cover.
the song doesn't have be one of the classic Maiden tunes and may very well be a song from the Di'Anno or Bailey era. it might even be easier for the singer if that's the case.

3. the sound

while I know it's unlikely we'll be able to make it sound like on their records, I'm strongly in favor of trying to capture the original character, vibe and sound of the particular song as good as we can.
I'd love for the guitarists to be able to faithfully reproduce the solos.
overall it doesn't have to be extremely polished and clean because that's not that maiden's recordings are like and about.

I assume the drums will have to be programmed I'm sure wel'll figure something out to make it work.
guitars and bass should sound pretty close to the original if possible.
vocals, we'll most importantly props to the person singing.

4. who'll mix it

here I think everybody who wants to mix it should be allowed to give it a go and in the end we'll vote for the best mix.

ok, now I'll let you chime in and name your song of choice. Can't wait to tackle this project.

update:

here are the threads for the three songs:

cheers and up the irons!

Totally down for any rhythm or lead guitars and as well for giving the mix a go. I've always wanted to do "Caught Somewhere in Time." I don't think I've ever heard a full fledged cover of it. Other awesome songs I'd put a vote towards "Killers," "Revelations", "The Evil that Men Do," just to name a few.

Yeah I'm in for guitars for any Maiden track - I'll take Davey's side 'cause he's the reason I started playing the guitar!!!! :headbang:
I'd love to do Wrathchild, Heaven Can Wait, The Prisoner, Children of the Damned, Rime of the Ancient Mariner or Where Eagles Dare!!! Fuck there are so many to choose from!!! :erk:

People have already claimed guitars so that's that out of the question for me, but I'd love to give mixing this a go, won't be anywhere near as great as other guys on this forum but I'd love a chance to mix a maiden track with faithfully reproduced instrumentation and vocals :p

Im up for vocals, could also do reamps if needed and if i do the vocals i could deliver the official PRO mix. I don't think we need to stay true to the original in terms of sound, could be a tad more modern without completely destroying it with Slate samples etc haha

I would like to do Run to the hills which i think i would sing awesome :D

Hey I'd love to get on this. I've known Maiden from an album called "A call to iron" about 13 years ago with great remakes like Troopers. The other guitarist in my band could play one of the 2 solos ;) pm me if you need examples of my work

status update:

I've carried together and organized everybody who's chimed in so far.
take a look. it looks like we already have enough people for 2 songs.

however, we need at least one more person for drum programming.
I'm decent at doing the velocities and sounds but I'm not a drummer and
can't adequately tab out the drums for the songs.

I like the idea of crillemannen to do the final mix but I think everybody who wants to mix the songs should be allowed to, if only for funsies and practice.

so now we have to decide on songs.
some people mentioned more than one song but that makes our choice harder.

crillemannen was the first to suggest only one song, Run To The Hills.
so that's the first song we'll incorporate in our 'vote list'.
I pick Afraid To Shoot Strangers

So far the list looks like that:

please, everybody pick your favorite (I know it's hard) and post it here.

Of course i think that we should upload the raw tracks for everyone to mix but I can do the official mix, thats what i meant :)

And if the guitars and bass are tracked good i might me able to get someone to record real drums over here. Run to the hills would definitely sound awful with program drums haha
If we decide for Run to the hills we can decide for a tempo, someone could do guide rythm tracks for the drummer. i got a band coming to the studio in 2 weeks, he might be up for it :)

I'm waiting for the rest to post their pick and then update the song list. so we can decide on two songs, maybe three since EL_gato and luismars can contribute as well.
crillemannen, do you think three songs would be too much? main problem is getting three songs of drums and you mixing so I'm asking you. on the one hand it might be too much but on the other hand
it would be sad if some people can't contribute because we have not enough songs.

Im up for mixing one song and recording one song for drums, im pretty busy so im doing this because its fun :) But 3 songs is a bit to much work. But i don't see any problem with different people mixing if we are gonna do an EP. Then someone just needs to master it properly in the end.

Count me in for vocals! I've been waiting for another collaboration since the Dio Tribute.

EDIT: I wouldn't mind doing some drum programming, check out "Heaven And Hell", "We're Stars" and "Dream Evil" for reference.
