Ok lads - I guess I wanted to always do one of these - I just love pole dancing ...ahem.

So who is the better band for you? THE MIGHTY MAIDEN or the MIGHTY SABBATH (any era for both bands too)

Well for me its gotta be Bruce, Nicko, Ads, Davo, Steveo and Janick. I love Sabbath though I always preferred the Dio era than Ozzy's time.

I'll say Maiden. Just b/c they had much better production. There's something about the sound of 70's era Sabbath that just :erk:'s me.
If all of their previous albums had the production value of say 'The Mob Rules' then I'd be able to dig it more.

Incidentally, Sabbath covers are all the shit. I've yet to hear one I didn't like.

Ya know I was gonna try and either put Priest instead of Sabbath. I was thinking of another band that was part of the NWOBHM that would really be very tough for some to decide upon between Maiden and them.

For me Maiden are untouchable. Sure their music hasn't progressed and they still play the same stuff on every frickn album but I just love em man.

No one comes close to Bruce Dickenson. NO ONE! The Greatest voice in Metal - ever... period.

Perhaps only band might challenge Maiden... Warrant. NOT! HAHAHAHA.

Yeah, I voted Maiden too. They were the first band I got into. I have always had a soft spot for them.

My Sister got me into them when I was a kid...1982 or thereabouts.
Finally saw them live in 1988 at Donnington.
Then again in 1990 (I think) at a tiny club in Ayr called the Pavilion. 500 capacity. Unbelievable. (Wolfsbane were supporting on that tour...no-one thought much of them. Except Maiden apparently!)

Haven't seen them since, but they've always made me smile when I hear them.

Sabbath's first four or five albums were great. Amazing riffs. Ozzy before he was a cartoon. But it has to be Maiden.

I voted for Sabbath because if it weren't for them many bands (Maiden included) may never have been inspired to play metal in the first place. I know Maiden inspired just as many bands, but Sabbath did it first.

I totally agree with your statement. I voted for sabbath as well, however Maiden took metal into a very different. A direction that paved the way for all the bands we love today.

I picked Sabbath, I really like both but i went with the first band to introduce true anti-religious lyrics into the main stream.

Absolutely, I take nothing away from Maiden!

Tough poll - yep indeed - that was the intention. It is a tough one - for me Sabbath was always more about Iommi than anything. Ozzy has never really done anything for me as a singer or a front man except maybe star in a wierd reality TV program. Yet Iommi is like the Godfather of Metal guitarists. Had a very interesting chat with my guitar teacher about him recently. Never realised he almost gave up guitar playing but for the persistence of his mother's advice to continue practising!

Anyway my classic Maiden lineup is the Powerslave lineup. I love Janick but feel that Adrian and Davo just alone were masterful - now I feel they somehow have to compete for play time with Janick on board. Bruce, Stevo and Nicko just get better with age!

Sabbath created every riff ever. And are one of the few bands to successfully change lead vocalist with Ronnie, after that they sucked though.
Maiden, took what Sabbath created and took it to the next level, and created some awesome music. Overall, Maiden in the better band in terms of vox, bass (Harris =God), and although neither of Maiden's lead geetarists is an Iommi, you can't beat the melodies Maiden create with the twin/triple axe attack. And last but not least, Nicko. He is whack!

Smith and Murray's harmonies are just magic. Harris invented a whole new way of playing Bass! Nicko should be locked away but what a laugh he is.

Funny a lot of ppl reckon Dance of Death was lame - I actually prefer it to Brave New World in some respects. I felt that Brave New World first few songs were awesome but kinda fell flat after that ...whereas Dance of Death is very good throughout. Journey Man is such a different song for them but I love it. Pity about the Cover!

Man what I wouldn't give for a 5.1 mix of Live After Death on DVD!

I like Dance better as well
:)
At least Maiden are trying, Priest, KISS, AC/DC, and Aerosmith seem to put out albums just to have an excuse to tour.

This is going to be unpopular but i must be the only metal fan out there that hates Maiden & Sabbath without Ozzy. Sabbath with Ozzy however is my favorite ever band.
