After all the nostalgia for the good old days i've just realised that most metal seems to be crap nowadays.

like when i were a lad we had loads a bands who were at the height of their powers to get all excited about, metallica iron maiden, testament, voivod, anthrax, slayer, sabbat, coroner. Celtic frost, death, napalm death and all the like. Even the early ninties had darkthrone and them to keep things a bit interesting

Now what have you got?? crappy retro metal bands that are as fake as afro wigs. Like children of boredom, night in gales and all that shite. Even all the semi good bands arent that original nowadays

I fell sorry for kids these days so i do.

lack of any originality or spark

like theres nooo scene for the little spikey kids to flock to man, i mean brootal death, grind core, black, thrash, all that stuff has been around for 10-20 years. Its like metal ran out of ideas and then just started reheating the old stuff.

Its okay with me cos i can say metal is crap nowadays and be all old manny about it, but ye gotta think about the KIDS tho, what about them??

Well... for the kids there's still enough old stuff to discover :D. Then there are loads of bands with a nice discography still active. And Agalloch, Sculptured, Darkest Hour, Yakuza, Beyond the Embrace are all very good newer bands. There's more than enough if you ask me. I don't see myself getting bored with metal very soon anyway.

Put it this way - its good enough to keep me interested all year long. Its also much more diverse than 10 - 20 years ago. Back then there was hundreds of bands all doing the same thing. Now you've got twice as many sub-genres within all with their own fans. All the bands you mentioned were American, except for darkthrone. Today, almost every country has its own metal representative, each sounding unique and with interesting backgrounds.

who gave you two permission to reply on my thread?? sabbat were'nt american either

its all crap i tell you!!!

and theres another problem, all these lazy arsed fuckers who never leave their home town or tour and sign to some tinny ickle label. that is NOT metal ppl

i feel sorry for posh teenagers dressed like a key chain walking around with a slipknot shirt. is that the new metal scene?

hm but have a look at the 80's metal dress. i'd rather wear a slipknot shirt than shrink-to-fit white jeans, sneakers, a ton of hairspray and greasy jeans jackets with patches on.
80's metal never made it for me, i hate maiden and all that stuff with castrate singers. 80's pop is cool though (as cool as pop can be).

yeah but it looked great back then. the dressing these days looks shit even tho its still the current dressing like you know what i mean?

A bandshirt and a cheap pair of jeans grabbed from the floor usually does it for me, simplism all the way.

Them poser kids of these days look like crap, I can't identify with that bunch of wannabe's in any way. 80's metalheads were cool, they were true to themselves and that's what counts. Also stuff like maiden is great, you just gotta put it in the right context. Basically all my favorite bands of these days still sound like maiden. It's either that or it isn't metal I'm listening to.

i dont want them to. theyd be on metal mags covers and posh metal mongs would say theyre great.

Metal doesnt exist anymore. Its either the old metallers carrying on with no sponk coz theyve got nothing else to do and they dont fancy a job at the local Kwik Save where the kids would skit their mullets, or new 'metal' bands that arent really metal at all

don't feel sorry for them, man... they surely have their own world and perceptions, so it's pointless, maybe they are happy that way, who knows?

I just don't get it, is the 80's scene better just because Strangelight says it so, or just because you were young and energetic back then? I'm not sorry for the metal scene either, nor the kids, and agree with hibernal dream that music's much more diverse now. In Hungary there are a lot of original bands, okay, they're underground, but who cares anyway? I'm not saying metal is crap nowadays, but I've changed cause I've got old and don't listen to it any more.

Sorry for posting without permission :Smug:
