Every genre should change evolve and die off sometime. Like, nobody sounds like Iron butterfly or Pink Floyd these days but back in the 60s that was the trend. So maybe metal is dying like psychedelic rock did. Like how metal is Limp Bizkit which is one of the most popular metal bands today. What is metal anyway?

Hmm, chances are that I go to more metal gigs than you. I get sent tons of metal promo CDs. Me mates in Dublin run metal labels and promotion companies and are always bombarding my poor brain with the latest metal favourites. Whether I like it or not, Im in contact with the metal scene. Unfortunately, nothing grabs my attention really these days.
Can anyone name a classic metal album of recent times? I can only think of Samael- Passage, and I guess thats an aquired taste anyway..

I see the point :Smug: , the Anathema forum has alot of Rock Fans, am not against Rock (I now love Rock Classics), but then where is rock nowdays?? bands playing like classic Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin????

why Anathema, The Gathering, PL, doesnt get what they deserve?? same happends with some Metal bands

try new Dimmu Borgir(2nd on sweden charts!!!), Old Man's Child, Morbid Angel(why isn't in your list?), Behemoth, Napalm Death..even Maiden!!

and lets wait for the new Slayer, Testament, MDB albums sure they are gonna be great metal , shame Death isn't there because sure it would kicked ass!!

it's a matter of taste. saying that sth is crap only because it's not completely innovative is very questionable and not clear to me at all.

maybe 99% of bands are copies of metal dinosaurs in one way or another, but as long as its really good music and sounds quite fresh, i don't care. in most cases i prefer these copies than their music inspirations.

y'see kids it seems this crazy little scene that ppl call metal just doesnt seem to have the same zeitgeist it used to. like the first time i heard slayer bathory and napalm death i was blown away because it was unprecedented to me, same with the early peaceville doom stuff and even the ould bl**k m*t*l. Whos doing that these days?? nooo onnne it seems. tho electric wizard and iron monkey gave it a good shot

maybe i should check out yakuza and all them noise core laddies

Hi there! Back for posting after a while!

I don't think metal is crap nowadays... I'm proud to be a metalhead, proud to wear band's t-shirts (even Slipknot!), and proud to get so many metal CD's... Metal has a lot of variations, anybody on this earth can find something interesting on it you know... For example, my sister is a big star academy fan (you know, all this TV bullshit), but she likes Type O Negative, The Gathering, Anathema, etc... bands where the singer really sings.

But I understand Bambi's point of view when he's speaking about ripping off the "old" legends... But you know, for example, what are Dew-Scented & The Haunted except Slayer ripps-off? But admit they are great, they play with passion and power, and both their latest effort are better than Slayer's "God hates us all"!

You know, I like Massive Attack, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Antimatter, Mark Lanegan, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Coldplay, etc... but I also listen to Hate eternal, Inhume, Angel corpse, Darkthrone, Aborted and a lot of killer death/black/grind bands...

If you are searching for something unique and/or original, you should try bands like Samael, Devin Townsend, Strapping young lad, A perfect circle, Korn, Tool, Cult Of Luna, etc... There are too many to list on web page...

Music is just a matter of feelings, metal in general can fits them all...
