The American scene will forever more be utter shit. And yeah I live here too. Fuck the US msuic scene. Sweden and Germany and those tyles are where its at. The only thing we've evr had going as far as I'm concerned is Savatage, Iced Earth(pre glorious shitfest)Shadows Fall even tho the new one sucks, Nevermore, Symphony X(They American??) and....... and...... who else is from the states? I like GWAR. Oh Megadeth ... AND TESTAMENT!!

Fuckin EVERYTHING I like is comin outta Sweden.

Ska is shit like No Doubt, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Sublime. Emo I still dont get. I guess its called "Emotional Music" But Everlost Part 2 is emotional music for me.

As far as american death metal goes, i'd have to agree that some of the best death metal is coming out of there lately. The Black Dahlia murder fucking OWN (melodic death-sue me) , as well as some others.

@Sunlapse, I hate Simple Plan with a passion. But some of their songs have distinctive Gothenburg-styled melodies. And Yellowcard and Rufio as well...but I like them.

And ska owns.

thats too broad a generalization i think.... maybe.... its like saying a guitar part plays this certain note after this one, etc.... the problem is just that the musical context of the two styles are waaaaaaaaaay too different to compare.

Of course.. there are lots of good bands from USA. But compare the scene to the Swedish, Norweigan, or Finnish metal scene. If you compare USA and Scandinavia in size and population there shouldn't even be any competition. That's pretty much what I'm trying to say.

I'm guessing Western Europe will have the best scene soon.
The US has some great bands (Novembers Doom, Abaroth, Maudlin Of The Well/Kayo Dot, Testament, Deicide), but look at all the great bands coming out of Poland alone:

I could keep going on, but there's a list of great bands from Poland alone, and Germany and Holland are also producing a lot of awesome bands (Detonation is one of the best).

The American isn't going to be as great as you say it is. and it certainly won't beat Western Europe.
