Every time someone tries to express their opinion on what is emo, punkers get up in their face and tell them they're all wrong. I've made eight million different interpretations of emo and according to my friend, I was wrong every time.

My one friend described it as "hardcore love punk," lol.

@Steve: you're going to look too hard into the underground scene of that country, I've never heard of 80% of those bands you stated even though I've known Behemoth, Vader, Decapitated for some years now... I don't know about the American underground metal scene so I won't judge the whole scene over there. (By the way, Poland is considered Eastern Europe , and one of the most productive country for quality death/black metal)

I think that internet has helped a lot in promoting bands over the world, which is a good thing. But the bad reaction to that is people thinking that only the good stuff comes from far away, internet giving the illusion that distances don't exist. So it's rather a pity when people keep saying "I want In Flames to tour the USA/Australia/Indonesia/Antartica/Urduland" etc... Just an example.
What I don't understand is why american bands wouldn't export themselves in Europe more easily? I live near Paris so it's ok if I want to see Deicide or Testament (less often) but those who live in smaller cities almost never have big concerts and it's not easy for most of european metalheads to see their favorite bands. That's why we euro's have our own big underground scene: because our favorite american bands won't come to our town

In Flames have never made an album that's anything less than good in my opinion and I hope they push their sound on despite RTR not being my favourite. Definately the album that Im looking forward to most this year.

I have to agree with Icedinflames on the American scene. Taking the Gothenburg sound is one thing but without any memorable tunes it's pretty pointless. I think the exception to the rule is Killswitch Engage. i thought the Art Of Balance was average at best. Sweden and Finland really do seem to be going more for metal than anywhere else; it's time press coverage reflected that.

The Art Of Balance is more thrash-oriented than Of One Blood.

Don't forget bands like Vehemence and Agalloch.

And a lot of our Gothenburg sound comes from hardcore and punk bands.

Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, Vehemence, Lamb Of God, Unearth, Atreyu, As I Lay Dying and 5 million pop-punk bands have the Gothenburg sound better than the Gothenburg bands themselves.

And even if you go to a Deicide show, it's not guaranteed that Glen will show up and they'll cancel (at least there was Krisiun and Mortician)

Let us hear the album for ourselves and we'll be the judge of the content.

As far as american death metal goes, i'd have to agree that some of the best death metal is coming out of there lately. The Black Dahlia murder fucking OWN (melodic death-sue me) , as well as some others.

The Black Dahlia Murder is definitely nuts. Their debut album is virtually error-free, it reminds me a lot of Slaughter Of The Soul.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I saw Deicide 2 years ago, and the show wasn't very good.

But you know a lot of shit bands can get famous and start making tours while good bands never have any feedback, it's a money and promotion problem. I think it happens a lot more in the USA because the culture there is conformised in each state, while in Europe, each country is different so I guess you can pretty much pick a few good bands for the 20 countries of the union, and that gives you around 50 good bands already. So OF COURSE you'll say Europe is better for metal, because it's diversed in that way. While America is considered like one single nation...

When the metal TREND (which is what North America is good for) dies, we'll see where these bands from the States will be, In Europe Metal will still be alive just like it has been through the GLAM, Grunge and Nu-Metal eras. In the 80's and 90's when I was listening to metal people would make fun of it, now all of the sudden MTV plays these bands and its cool. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that playing metal is starting to pay off for these bands. anonymousnick2001 I'm not trying to start a fight but I think your wrong, and were both entitled to our opinion. SunlapseVertigo I have heard Vehemence, but Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God, Unearth, Atreyu, As I Lay Dying to me, all sound simular. Shadows Fall were good 4 years ago, but now we have a 100 more bands who sound the same coming out of America.
