j/k with the other thread guys, this is the real black metal thread

In summary I have to say that Norsk Black Metal for the most part is dead. The future now lies in Eastern EU, Central Asia and the US (as much as I hate to credit the US with anything - no offence to Americans on this board).

true and false. Norsk Svart Metall is most certainly dead as can be, but all this "Slavic pride black metal" bullshit is not the future. There is some quality there, sure, but nothing revolutionary. And the very same could be said of the french scene, for instance, and probably a few others. America still hasn't made any culture of worth since a certain literary movement in the early nineteen hundreds, though (A lot of offence to Americans on this board). :)

What I would like to see, is a band with close ties to ancient asian (japanese/chinese/something) culture, and with the competence to successfully merge that with black metal music (and no one mentions Sigh!).

C'mon Crimson, it's not Slavic pride "bullshit". That kind of stuff only makes up a small part of Eastern EU's contribution. I used to feel the same way about Eastern EU's approach to it as well, but there's much more there. Besides, the Slavic Pride stuff is most predominant in Poland and doesn't account for Eastern EU as a whole).

I'm saying that at this point, Eastern EU combined with that of Central Asia and to a lesser extent the US, is the future. Not just EU by itself.

Yes I agree. And not just using instruments or lyrical influence, I want to see true musical integration (e.g. Drudkh). I would also love to see more stuff from the Middle East (a shame that Melechesh are more deathmetal now than Black), I can imagine a beautiful result from a combination of Black Metal with Middle Eastern music.

i think you misunderstand me, my friend! it is not the pride itself I have a problem with (hey, I'm all for pride of heritage etc!), but rather that music itself. I mean, of course, all those silly folk bands that are being drooled over nowadays... Drudkh = good, but all in all, not revolutionary. And I, quite frankly, can't think of any other bands you could possibly be referring to as the future of black metal.

Yes, exactly! A full incorporation of culture, philosophy, melodies and history. It would, undoubtedly, be beautiful...

 no no not the pride itself, but more so in reference to those area producing nothing but those kinds of bands... I'm saying there's more to those areas Black Metal wise, than the whole Slavic pride thing.

Besides, I actually find the output from these areas quite interesting. Take for instance the new Kroda album. I found most material prior to it to be "typically Slavic Black Metal", but this new album shows a huge leap in maturity and contains many beautiful passages.

If you've ever watched documentaries on Islam and the Middle East in general, there are always shots/footage of Mosques with Koran readings being blared out on speakers throughout cities. The sound of them is beautiful, and would make an amazing musical influence on Black Metal.

Also, I think Arabic, like German, is a very course language. The phonetics of the words and phrases would perfectly suit rasped and shrieked vocal delivery. I wish someone would do something Middle-Eastern based (on a pure Black Metal trajectory though).

Hubster, you forgot about german black-metal. bands like Secrets Of The Moon, Lunar Aurora, Helrunar or Ruins Of Beverast are brilliant and innovative.

^ Germany has it's share, but in comparison to some other countries, I personally don't feel it compares to other regions as a whole.

The Emperor Enslaved split Hordanes Land

Is the album I started listening to Black metal with. It is a great starting album. It is basically part of Emperor's Wrath of the Tyrant with Enslaved's Hordanes land at the end of it.

Melechesh? Middle eastern? Lol wtf they are from Holland or something like that they just have that influence

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melechesh

"Melechesh is a black metal band that originated in Jerusalem, Israel. Ashmedi started the band as a solo project in 1993. In the following year, guitarist Moloch and drummer Lord Curse were added to the line-up. The band's goal was to create a type of black metal incorporating extensive Middle Eastern influences mainly based on Mesopotamian/Sumerian and occult themes (both musically and lyrically); the band invented the title "Mesopotamian Metal" to best describe their type of metal."

Next time do your research before posting stupid shit.
