in the grand tradition of the classical thread, this will be a thread to discuss jazz (as I am a fan) that metalheads might like. right now I only know Arthur Doyle, John Zorn, and Bill Laswell.

Jazz has had a lot of influence in certain areas of extreme music, especially free jazz (Naked City, Napalm Death, Botch, DEP, Cephalic Carnage, Swans, Atheist, Cynic, Death)

what are you favorite jazz artists and why? what would you recommend to someone just getting into it?

aside from jazz metal, Matthew Shipp's Equilibrium was a really awesome cd that mixed jazz with urban beats. V5 would probably enjoy it. Other than that, my jazz heroes are Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Pat metheny, and Al DiMeola
