Listening to thread???

It's got a touch of death metal in there too that fits just right. Apparently it's just one guy from California and he releases these EPs on Bandcamp. Thought you guys might dig it, I surely do.

Not metal, but I've been listening like crazy to Electric Six. You may know them from such songs as Gay Bar and Danger! High Voltage, but they're so much more, and their music is really fucking awesome. They're basically whatever genre they feel like being at the time they're playing, so a single CD can have a crapload of different genres on it.

For example, there's the fifties rock'n'roll inspired "Rock And Roll Generation"

The jazzy, upbeat, trippy "Down At McDonnelzzz"

The country-inspired "Pink Flamingos"

Hell, even disco with "Dance Epidemic".

Or there's the bitter, droning, tragic "We Use The Same Products"

They're truly a fucking amazing band.

But hipster as in awesome post rock/alt rock like that Khoma, Atoma and Junius has to slip through the filter sometimes :(

I introduced you to Junius on this board, man. Junius is Lynyrd Skynyrd by comparison, haha. It's a shame because the music's decent, but their whole persona/performance completely ruins it. Hopefully they have better stuff and I can eventually look past their lameness.

Ah yeah, Deftones definitely got better with age. It all started with White Pony. They left behind all that angst-y teen crap, even though the riffs were still awesome, and really stepped up their game. I'm really surprised at Chino's level of songwriting quality; he didn't even play guitar and then taught himself, and some of his first lines were on White Pony. Stephen Carpenter basically told him that if he's gonna play guitar then he has to play guitar and not do some half-ass shit just so he can have a guitar strapped to him to look cool. Then he heard what he was doing and put it on White Pony, and it just took off from there. Deftones is the only band to really transcend nu-metal.

I agree completely. Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan especially are just insane albums, no band really does what they do. Can't wait for the new one. What do you think about Crosses?
