Live Videos Thread

They just want to give Alexi a break after focusing on the new album. It's more important Antti gets his thing together in these stupid summer gigs before the real action starts.

Antti lacks charisma, he'll be dropped by then. His playing is totally fine on the other hand.
Any of you guys know if this exists in better quality or at least correct aspect ratio? I couldn't even figure what the correct one is.

Yeah, he should go to karate to gain some on-stage "crotch", like Elvis did. But everybody is different. Roope was a shy, weird dude off stage but on stage he had his rocking act going on. Antti needs to find his style or else he'll probably be dropped. He needs to breathe thru his balls, take wider and lower stances, keep his shoulders back and abs tensed, maybe dress a little different. This is all it takes, but first you gotta have the songs in muscle memory. Then he has to feel the energy of the music, like he's in the same ship with each song. Sure he needs to learn the songs pro, and everyone's different, but these things can do the trick. Just rock it like a porn star.

The dude just started playing with them. He's probably never played in front of huge crowds like that before. He just needs some time to come out of his shell.

You can hear the bass guitar so well, better than ever. I think they knew about the proper recording and decided to treat this gig knowing it will be recorded. Alexi's paying a bit more attention to vocals, like he's doing on the new album, luckily they figured that's become their weakness and it needs attention (still needs). Keys are mixed too silent, tho.

While waiting for the new album I think they should start the gigs with Knuckleduster as 1st song. Can I ask which is bigger risk, doing that, or having fans skip shows cos they enter with the same set they did before? I'm not going to this summer's gig (the same setlist + Nightwish...), but this kind of thing would change it. Maybe I'm just too HC but I think there's a bunch of really exciting rare or never played songs waiting to be played and they would surely get the blood pumping and open some eyes.

When the new album comes out, it could be too late forever, since they have (hopefully) too many hits they have to play.

There are others, too, but I'm talking mainly about these songs:

Warheart
Hatebreeder
Taste of My Scythe
Chokehold
Lil' Bloodred Ridin' Hood
Knuckleduster
Punch Me I Bleed

Can you fucking imagine the crowd scream if Alexi asked 'would you like to hear a song from Follow the Reaper that's never been played?'

That would be pretty damn cool but I'm pretty sure people would just get mad over it because "OMG WHY THEY PLAY SHIT I'VE NEVER HEARD BEFORE WHERE'S MY HALO OF BLOOD". They really should do some bigger variations to their setlist. When I saw them I pretty much guessed every song they played except Somebody Put Something in My Drink.

Wonder if Alexi uses still ENGL amps? His guitar sound is so shitty on gigs nowdays. Even Antti's sound is far better.

No, no ENGL on Alexi. He uses Marshall JVM exclusivly latley it seems. But regarding to the tone, its actually more the HZ2 + MM04 combo that sucks ass. And his playing was really sloppy on the later tracks of hellfest!
I have a ESP SV standard which is pretty much the same as Alexis custom and I added EMG HZ-2s and MM04 to it and its beyond crap compared to Jackson J-50BC JE1000 and even HZ-4 MM04/JE-1000 combo.
It is definatly not the amp since I own the JVM and kicks ass!

So to sum it up I blame his pickup!

I have said it many times, but imho he just uses too much gain for live gigs. His sound really points out each and every mistake he makes. It may be good for riffing but it does not work with leads at all.

It's rahter too much hi mids than too much gain, his live sound is brittle and chrunchy. It's been that way since Blooddrunk tour. Piss poor sound, wish he went back too roots when regarding equipment.
Antti has EMG 81s and make them so damn good compared to Alexis sound, in my experience all Alexis pickups (even SD blackouts) with exception of HZ-2 are better sounding than those 81's with any amp or setup.

Yeah the notes lack any sort of sustain.... I am a big fan of Blackouts and I think it would help his sound if he went back to them

And this is a good point too. His playing has room for improvement, but the tone just exacerbates each mishap.

When I saw Bodom live, I didn't notice too much, but watching videos (especially big festival ones) it is clear.

Eh it's all personal preference- I've tried EMG 81/ Jackson J-50BC and JE1000 and the EMG HZ-H2 and MM04 and I personally prefer the latter. The 81 tends to have no character to it, the J-50BC & JE1000 was way too noisy and noise gates took a lot of tone out of it but the HZ-H2 & MM-04 is fairly quiet and still has that faint wah sound on the higher strings which I loved about the Jackson pickup.

Alexi definitely uses too much distortion for using a gainboost and you need to warm up quite a bit before playing to play clean as yeah it does pick up mistakes more than other pickups. Also it would help if added a little bit more bass to his tone to make it not seem as flat.

Apologies if already posted, but this is a really good quality video of the Hellfest Show (the show HAS been posted, just this one is really good quality for a free live video).

PS: Also, I have apparently forgotten how to properly post a video, sorry for that.
