Wouldn't you like to know
I hate this day.

I hate how people decide to pretend like they give a shit for one day. I hate how people say "thank you for serving." I hate how people are too stupid to think for themselves and realize they're being lied to. I hate how people boast about national pride as if that's even possible. I hate how military veterans get off on having their egos stroked. I hate how military families feel like they're owed something. I hate people and I hate the public.

Fuck Memorial Day and fuck you.

"A man can almost never be convinced to do what he defines as evil – but if that evil can be redefined as a good, men will almost inevitably praise or perform it. Very few men would agree to murder for payment – but very few men will condemn soldiers as murderers.

Very few people would openly say that they oppose rape, but support the rapists – however, when the same moral equation is redefined as a good, just about everyone says that they oppose the war, but support the troops."

-S. Molyneaux

Memorial Day seems mostly treated as a party day where I'm at. One of those things for people to ask "Any plans for the big weekend?" for me to respond "Uh, what's happening this weekend?" to.

Me being military, I don't expect anything in any way what-so-ever on Memorial Day. This day is for those who have died. And only them. Of course, this is just another holiday that has become just another day off and a chance for stores to have sales...

I agree with Richard. My grandfather served in the navy during WWII, luckily not stationed at Pearl Harbor. While he was alive I never thanked him for his service, nor did my mother or cousins. It just wasn't a big deal 6-7 years ago. Nowadays, everyone is trying to suck the collective veteran cock.

These are people who CHOSE to join the military and GET PAID, knowing they would be leaving everything behind. Just like policemen and firefighters get paid to do a dangerous job.

And these "thanks for protecting our freedom" and "Freedom ain't Free" cool conservative one liners are goddamn retarded. The biggest threat to our freedom isnt some student and blowhard boxer in Massachusetts. It's shit like the patriot act and politicians going after the press and individual citizens because of a political leaning. No goddamn camel jockey in Iran has threatened our freedom. Our safety or security perhaps, but never our freedom. Just shut up already.

Yep, military service deserves no special thanks or praise over the thousands of people who work thankless jobs that this country requires to function.

I certainly do not want any of our soldiers to die in combat. But if they do, people need to look at reality. This poor dude blown up by a roadside bomb didn't die protecting my freedom. He died fighting for old white guys who sent him to a foreign country to fight the "bad guys", or as they are commonly called nowadays, "terrorists" (SEE: people who have different principles than Americans).

Also, keep in mind they are being paid. They get free education after serving, not to mention VA benefits, pensions, housing help, health benefits. Corporations like hiring them because they are a tax break over the regular joes.

I hope they all come back, but don't expect me to kiss their ass.
