Mesa 2 Ch. Dual Rec vs. Roadster comparison! (AKA I NEED ROADSTERZ)

Hey Marcus, yours beats down the Roadster on my speakers in terms of its recording. I just prefer that extra prescence rather than the seemingly more muffled sounding Roadster, BUT NOT the fizz. I reckon you should have posted a poll :D Maybe more tests are required. If you can negate that muffled sound from the mic'd roadster I think you are on to something.

Oh yeah dude, like I said, I'm quite confident it'll be easier to add in cut/presence to the Roadster (with amp settings or maybe post eq, though I doubt it'll come to that) rather than attempting to wrangle out the excessive fizz of the 2 ch - and yeah, as I said, the cab was in the same room so I couldn't tweak while listening through the monitors (KRK Rokit 8 Gen 2's), and as for listening back after it was recorded and knowing what to tweak, well, let me just say those were quite possibly the most inaccurate monitors I have ever heard in my life; maybe it was cuz he had them on a desk that was in a corner and there was about 2.5" between the backs of them and the wall (I made sure to mention these things to him :D), but good god, I'm just glad I know my perfect settings on my 2 ch., cuz it did NOT sound like what I'm used to it sounding like here on my Tannoys! (which I trust absolutely implicitly, as they've been my monitors and main computer speakers for 6 months now)

Thanks for listening and the comments guys!

Haha, damn Erik, passionate - but hey, controversy = attention! :D And I prefer the Roadster simply because I recognize its potential and the lack of fizz is so relieving to me!

Both sound good to me. Both sound pretty similar too, minus the fizz factor on the 2 channel. Even though preamp tubes make small differences, they might make both amps sound a bit similar if they had the same tubes.

Regardless, both sound good and I think it's your best recorded sound yet.

Thanks Joe! Though personally, I think it's hardly my best, comparing it to the other recordings I've done I really think that 002 absolutely bastardized my tonez; I mean, compare it to this for chrissakes, so much more chunk in the latter! Tomorrow I'll re-amp using the same settings with my good ol' Onyx 400F to see the difference (granted it'll be in a different room and the mic position might not be exactly the same, but still, in both rooms I had the cab at least 7 feet from walls on any side so hopefully it should be pretty consistent!)

Yeah, I suppose the crappy pres and conversion aren't giving the best representation, but I think it's the most mix-ready of your tones so far. I felt that most of your others had a bit too much dustcap/presence in em.

that roadster sounds amazing bro, i totally agree with you! im really digging for your tones!

thanks for taking the time to do this comparison as well. i never knew the euphonic (?) differences of each respective Recto until reading some of your posts/listening. so, that is appreciated!

btw, if/when you do decide to sell your Dual, let me know dude! My studio partner and I are looking for one. I'm sure you could do well by hooking up a fellow sneapster as well :)

cheers dude!

I heard that on the ESP Forum, haha. I like how both came out. Roadster still has room for a bit more presence/treble, right? I think that might make it fit in a whole mix a bit better.

Thanks man, and yeah, will do! (though I don't quite know what you meant by euphonic :D)

Yeah dude, to say the least, the presence was at 9:00 and treble at 11:30 for this! ;) (the former because the manual says it's really aggressive, the latter because that's what I'm used to on my 2 ch) But I've never been on the ESP forum...

I'm digging the two channel too (not just because I own one either). I want some DI's for this shit so I can reamp Marcus. Work on it.

They've been in the OP this whole time Greg! :D

+1
Hey Marcus, I've heard from a few sources that Mesa has been shipping amps now with Russian preamp tubes (relabeled Sovtek's). (Note the "Russian 2" on silkscreen.)

Did you notice if the Roadster had Chinese or Russian preamp tubes? If the Roadster has Sovteks, and your Recto has Chinese tubes, that right there would contribute to some of the difference.

Thanks for posting the clips.:headbang:
