You should check out the new Whispered album. Very much in a similar style, but better than this IMO, and by a lot.

Damn. Shocking for me to say that the new Katatonia just isn't sticking this time. Individual performances are great - Renkse sounds killer as usual, and the production is great - but the songs just don't grab me like on previous releases. Ah well. There's always next time.

The new Oak Pantheon is fucking awesome though. Killer stuff from those boys, as usual.

Ah well that's my favorite record of theirs so I would disagree there. It basically sounds like a compilation of the worst songs from the past 4 or 5 albums. I liked the last EP way more that this. Sad because I was looking forward to this release a lot.

Same here. Im very disappointed. I really liked Serein and Old Heart Falls, they gave me false expectations of the album.
To me it sounds like they are trying too hard to be different on this album, so many weird things going on and I actually think Renkses vocallines are strange and just bad in so many songs, sounds so random.

I totally agree. It sounds like they just started jamming and recording in the studio and this is the result. Very strange, this album. I don't get a dark sad feeling like all of their other records. The vocal lines have no hooks at all. It's too poetic and yea....just fucking random. Not impressed.

The Melvins, Dark Funeral, and Yngwie have me hoping. Although Yngwie still hasn't gotten the sense to stop doing the vocals on his albums, so, yeah, as amazing as the guitar work may or may not be, we'll still be stuck with his crap singing. Just hire Goran again you fat bastard, I mean for God's sake is that so hard?

If I remember correctly, that band used to be a joke and their music was someone else's stuff but slowed down so that no one could really recognize it.
