You are right, music is about listening, but i fell more comfortable wearing black close, and stuff like that, i dont fell comfortable wearing pink close, or t-shirts saying "im pop".

Heres my opinion. Ok I think, as a matter of fact i firmly believe, that people who dress in the ways commonly associated with "metal" or whatever are more INTO metal. Put quite simply you're obviously more into metal if you let it dominate other areas of your life. That is just plain fact. Clothing being the obvious example. Why does it make you more of a fan? Well because metal means different things to different people. It can range from plainly just a listening experience to a culture or lifestyle. Those who make it their lifestyle express it, and i feel that is what "Metalwear" represents. Wearing a band shirt and choosing not to give in to the baggy pants revolution(LOL, can't believe I just said that) are the simplest forms of this. Whether or not you want other shit like huge boots, corpse paint(hopefully just for stage wear and not walking around home) or spiked or plain arm bracers are I guess others Now, Does that make you a better person? NO! Does it make you more knowledgable on metal? Hell No!
I mean people who dress in plain logoless solid color clothing is fine and respectable. That is being society compatible without essentially fitting in. You don't have to stand out, but fitting in is nauseatiing. Ok I don't respect people who wear FUBU , Ecko, Abercrombie, GAP, American Eagle etc. Why may you ask? Well I think
fitting in is the complete oppostie of the ideology expressed through the music and are missing valuable points. Ok I'll probably get the argument "Im just being myself" If any corporate pawn happens to come across this message. I say tough. How is wearing the same shit as everyone else "yourself"? Thats a paradox. Ok I'll give reasonable doubt that maybe the first time or two maybe the trend is "your style" But I mean trends come and go. So say Adidas of TommyH Hilfiger is "your style" or whatever. Now seeing those brands aren't as popular before, now say Ecko is the most popular now. Now explain to me this coincidence. How come your style
changes with everyone elses? Its simple it isn't your style. You are too scared of being an outsider. I don't do the the things I do because I want to be a rebel, outsider or whatever. I do them cause they are me. If everyone else was starting to dress similar to me, (which would probably never happen) I'd still wear my shit, And guess what I would still wear it even after everyone else followed the next "in" thing to do. My whole point is look the way you want for yourself and noone else. The music is what matters in the end. Enjoy metal and think about what i've said before you start with childish name calling and ripping on me. Im open to other peoples reasoning if you are to mine.

Completely false. Simply because I may not look like your average metal head doesn't mean I am less "into" metal. In fact, I bet I know more than half the UM members. It could very well mean that that individual is easily influenced by music. I'm not.

So looking "metal" makes you more of a fan? That is complete nonsense. It simply means you are easily influenced. I listen to metal music because I enjoy it. Nothing more, nothing less.

You just proved your age with this statement. You are either in high school or college. I work for a corporation and NO ONE wears those brands you just named. That is for teenie boppers and spoiled college kids.

So everyone who works for a corporation is a pawn? Jeez, have fun being a mechanic, making minimum wage for the rest of your life. Again, no 'corporate pawn' wears Adidas and Tommy H. You act like you know everyone. Maybe people like wearing those clothes. Simply because they don't want to look like white trash, doesn't make them pawns. I thought metal heads were open minded. sheesh. Hell, man, I look like your everyday Joe, and I'm still an outsider. Image is nothing, attitude is everything.

I'm completely open to your thoughts, but you quite obviously aren't open for other's thoughts by calling them pawns. Quit with your generalizations. Simply because some damn TV show says it's a certain way doesn't mean it is. When you get in the real world, you'll understand, until then.....shhhhhhhh

Music is entertainment, nothing else.

All I can say is that you CLEARLY don't have a job that requires you to look like a normal member of society.

I can also say that I'm more "into" metal (whatever the fuck that means) than most people I know, a few UM forum members here notwithstanding.

My "look" has nothing to do with my attitude, my outlook, my perceptions, my intelligence, the kind of coffee I drink, etc, etc, etc.

To think otherwise is narrow-minded and quite simply, asinine.

I can respect your post. You made a valid intelligent post without really ripping into me. Yes you are correct about my age. And maybe these things just apply to average say 15 year old to 22 year old. Since Id be more in contact with those members of society, I guess that is the group implied. I mean there are exceptions to everything. I don't question the validity of your ummm metalheadness(for lack of a word ...haha). You probably would know more than me in general about metal itself concerning the history and what not. Since you're older and have probably been into it longer. I would doubt anyone would devote time in their lives to post on message boards if they were into it. Unless posers have to impress people they don't know on the internet... which i doubt. I 've always been told things were different in the real world. I guess I'll have to wait until then.

But I still think if people wear those brands then they are a walking billboard for the latest trends.
A D V E R T I S E M E N T

I would assume most people who do the whole metal wardrobe our whatever are into it. Not many people like going against the waves of society these days. Its easier to conform. But hey you wear what you wear. and same for me. Metal is the bond in between . Keep listening to good music! And I only posted this to discuss it . Its not my intension to be ignorant or offend anyone and leave. And btw I didn't say just because you worked for a corporation you're a pawn. Im only talking about metal not occupation.

I dress as normal as I have to for "work"
and that is out of anyones hands. Im more or less talking about when you have the freedom to do it.

hahahaha lol. I suppose my post would make me look like a TRUE black metaller or something... hahah. No I don't like black metal or corpsepaint or spiked arm things. I do like the medieval replica bracers i got
from a medieval fest. But in the end to each his own. Im not going to harass you. It is your life. And like I said I think there are exceptions to everything. Im not closing my mind. Im sticking mainly to my original opinion while agreeing a lot with others... but I can respect the posts and people so far....

Im glad everyone responded the way they did. I expected a lot of name calling. There are more open-minded metalheads than I thought ....hehe
I still thought for the most part i presented my ideas in a respectable manner.
