Metal World Cup

Sorry, I didn't look at the bracket because I didn't know some of the countries well enough to feel comfortable voting.

I want Norway to win.
I guess I could see someone voting for Finland but the US just has soooo many bands of different styles that are pioneers and/or really great. They win on numbers alone.
I voted for US as well, but I think someone could make the case for Finland over US by pointing out that while the US has produced many great bands, it has also produced more crap than any other nation: hair metal, nu metal, groove metal, metalcore etc.

I don't think Finland has a strong enough canon to sell that argument, but it is one the US will have to face against a stronger opponent.

Sweden vs. France
Norway vs. Germany

United Kingdom vs. Italy
USA vs. Finland

I figured Finland and USA would meet in the finals, but now the only hard choice left is Sweden Vs Norway..

EDIT: I'm the only one who voted Finland? Old-school Finnish Death Metal is only the greatest genre of metal to have ever existed.

Crimney, Germany and Norway was an unequivocally brutal decision for me. I adore so much heavy metal from both countries. I might drop out on the U.S. versus the U.K., now that's just harsh. Maybe a slight lean towards the U.K., but Christ, some painful ambivalence on that one.

Knockout Stage- Semifinals:

Now we get down to the business end of the tournament. Two classic match ups: the Revolutionary War and the Scandinavian classic. Vote for your favorite between the two countries by bolding the country's name. Final votes must be in by Tuesday at 5 PM Pacific. You may change your votes between now and then. Feel free to lobby for nations.

I most definitely need more time to think about UK vs. US. UK is more top heavy (Priest, Maiden and Sabbath alone is hard to overcome). However, there's not a ton of great stuff from the past 25 years or so. The Peaceville doom metal is the only thing that immediately strikes me as standing out.

USA, on the other hand, has WAY more depth and way more sustained success over time, but has also produced most of the worst metal in the history of the genre, including hair metal, nu metal and metalcore.

Sweden

UK

The first round that I know enough about the countries involved in order to be able to vote. I absolutely love the US metal scene, but no one topples Priest and Sabbath.
