Shit, after lots of thinking I've come to realize that Sweden is superior to Norway. At least when it comes to multitude of bands in different subgenres.
Eh, perhaps. But even as an American metalhead, I don't feel we've created anything capable of outdoing the majesty of Sabbath, Maiden, or Priest, or the power of Motörhead or Venom. We've got droves of legendary bands, and have made our fair share of brilliant innovations to the genre, but still, it's nearly impossible to top all those ultra classic monster bands. Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno.
I love USPM. But Black motherfrigging Sabbath. The godfathers themselves. Motörhead, arguably one of the most consistent bands in rock and roll, and originators of speed and thrash. I just have a hard time seeing this, even as a rabid fanboy of Manilla Road, Pentagram, Legend, Manowar, etc.
A fair point. But I'm hard-pressed to find American bands that can top those original legacies. Death, Manowar, Dio, Slayer, and Megadeth probably come the closest.
NWOBHM, trad, speed, black, thrash, doom, Christian, stoner, stoner doom, all British. That's plenty of innovation. The genre period is British made, courtesy of Sabbath.
Dude death was created in Florida.
Groove was created in Texas and New Orleans.
Glam was Hollywood.
Motörhead and Venom.
Alice Cooper is the only metal act I can think of that matches the British old guard as an equal.
