Mikael Akerfeldt's Best Of 2006 list!

I have been a TOOL fan since the beginning, and the fact of the matter is that I think it is their best album ever. Jambi and Rosetta Stoned are the two songs that stand out on the album for me the most, and I think they are the two most important TOOL songs of all time. They have all the musical elements that make TOOL, TOOL.

You do not have to agree with me, I am just stating my opinion. I would love nothing more to see than Opeth open for TOOL. Imagine 10,000 people per night for lets say 50 nights see them. Lot's more Opeth fans, and that is good for the band. Melinda needs a new house....LOL

I do agree with Mike about Scott Walker's "The Drift". I have burned a few copies for my friends, and they either look at me like I am a complete wacko, or a musical genius.... and I owe it to Peter and Mike for talking about it in one of their interviews.

It's totally cool dude, I enjoyed the album...I have just yet to find the "big deal".

To me...

Vicarious sounds like a re-hashed Schism.
Jambi/Wings for Marie/10,000 Days are awesome.
The Pot is possibly the worst Tool song ever created.
Lipan Conjuring is alright, but then you have Lost Keys - it kind of interrupts the flow to have two interludes side by side.
Rosetta Stoned...I really like the song, but parts of it seem off.
Intension is like a seven minute Disposition...would be awesome if I smoked pot.
Right in Two is one of my favorite Tool songs, no doubt.
Viginti Tres? The worst ending to any Tool album. Unlike Faaip de Ode and Lost Keys, even, there is no real substance to it. It seems like noise for the sake of noise...and you're talking to someone who loves IDM music.

I checked them out on the last tour, and it was probably my least favorite show ever. They seemed bored, like they were playing a show for the sake of playing a show. And the merchandise prices? Wow. It is an insult to see that kind of money demanded for a simple tee-shirt.

But to each is own. As I said, I like the album, but I found there were other albums that kept me far more interested and inspired (such as, Scott Walker's The Drift...mesmerizing and frightening)

I hear ya man, and I completely understand that 10k days does not "flow" as an album as well as Lateralus does, but if you want to try to make a great album even better, rearrange the songs from Lateralus in this order. If you are a TOOL fan, then Lateralus is the best disc from end to end as far as "reinventing" their sound.

Parabol
Parabola
Schism
Ticks&Leeches
Mantra
Lateralus
Faaip De Oiad
The Grudge
Triad
Eon Blue Apocalypse
Reflection
The Patient
Disposition

This song line up is called "The Holy Gift", and is based on a mathematical calculation.

It totally changes the whole feeling of the album with restructuring the song order, and makes the whole feel of the album much much heavier in the beginning, and then spiralling down to mellow. It is worth a listen.

I did that with 10kDays, and this is the order I listen to it.

Lipan Conjuring
Jambi
Right In Two
The Pot
Intension
Wings for Marie
10,000 Days
Lost Keys
Rosetta Stoned
Vicarious
Viginti Tres

I like the flow alot better.

I disagree with you about the song "The Pot", where as I see it as a modern day return to the roots of the band. "The Pot" I could see written as a song off of Opiate, but also used it to gain more mainstream radio airplay. I think one of the reasons is the straight-forward time signature, and seems to fit that category of getting 14 year olds to call into the "top 9 at 9". It is classic TOOL from 3:41 to 4:30 however.

I wonder if any Opeth albums could be retooled (pun intended) to make the more interesting.

Lets try that with GR

Beneath The Mire
The Grand Conjuration
Baying of the Hounds
Reverie/Harlequin Forest
Ghost Of Perdition
Isolation Years
Atonement
Hours of Wealth

Getting back to your previous post, I with the 40 dollar t-shirts, 70 dollar sweatshirts, and 30 dollar posters, do the getting while the getting is good. It is a business as well as a band...LOL

The Pot is a very good song imo, but the vocals in the beginning are fucking terrible and awkward, Maynard really sounds like he is getting gangbanged.

I agree, the last tour was a more "cohesive" show for the fan. This album will grow on you. I hated it first, but I hated Lateralus at the first few spins, then I saw them live a few days after 9-11 at the Palace of Auburn Hills, and it sold me on the album.

Best Setlist of the tour

Cold and Ugly
The Grudge
Sober
H.
Schism
46 & 2
Parabol
Parabola
Third Eye
Aenima

Intermission

Disposition
Reflection
Triad
Lateralus

Please do all of us a favor and eliminate yourself from the genepool. How many more bloody lists can you make?

mars volta is among the wierdest bands i've ever had the opportunity of listening to.

amputechture is a solid album, though. Tetragrammaton is a good song.

Byron (Bal-Sagoth)
* Deicide – The Stench Of Redemption
* Celtic Frost – Monotheist
* Iron Maiden – A Matter Of Life And Death

Eh, my favorite vocalist has average taste imo.

Only one mention of Devin Townsend Band's "Synchestra" vs quite a few of Strapping Young Lad's "The New Black" which was a let down, Synchestra was way better in my opinion.

Yep, we can ascertain from this article that most metal musicians have terrible taste in music. Not that this should be a big surprise to anyone.
