Mikael Akerfeldt's Best Of 2006 list!

only one person picked the new Amon Amarth....but NO ONE picked the new Agalloch. wtf is that?

Who won? I mean, we all lose with ERIC PETERSON from the mighty Testament and Snowy Shaw (THERION) both picking My Chemical Romance, Nygard from Turisas picking Christina Aguilera, and Anneke picking Justin Timberlake. But seriously.... who won that? I think Slayer got more votes than any other band?

Tool, Iron Maiden and Celtic Frost appeared there a lot of times, didn't they?

I like those four bands, but their latest albums are not worth "Best Of The Year" IMO. They're just good... and well, seemingly OVERRATED!!!!

But to each is own. As I said, I like the album, but I found there were other albums that kept me far more interested and inspired (such as, Scott Walker's The Drift...mesmerizing and frightening)

I got that album on a great recommendation from someone I trust about music... but I cannot get into it:erk:

This song line up is called "The Holy Gift", and is based on a mathematical calculation.

I don't hate Tool fans because they are all little fanboys... I hate them for the reason above. Did anyone follow that link? All that mathematical shit just gives me the shits... all the clues and equations and mystery... just play a fucking song and stfu.

I'm sorry man, I'm sure you are one of many.

The first time I listened to it, I was in a house that was not my own working on a few school projects through some nice headphones at around 3:00 a.m. and it just got me. Maybe because the only light source in the room was my computer screen, maybe because the headphones made the sound isolated...who knows.

I think the album requires a certain atmosphere, at least at first.

No one picked Amon Amarth... I didn't see that.

What I saw is that:

SLAYER IS FUCKING OVERRATED! More overrated than Tool. Fucking shit, they got 21098743897398743 votes.

I'm totally agree with you.

Eric Peterson supposed to be a great fan of Black Metal (even he is friend of a lot black metal musicians) and he votes for this piece of stinky shit...

Tool could be the most overrated band of the last year... the 10000 days is a good album, but not the BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!!. in that case, the metal music is falling to a endless pool...

why don't mentioned deicide more times? the new album is awesome, or Origin from Borknagar? (Kampfar is too unknown to be mentioned, but his album is the best black metal album of YEARS).

The Mikael's choice was "sold"... or his preferences sucks.

I just saw that searching a message board one day, and decided to try it. I am not a fanboy at all... just a fan. The album is pretty cool that way however.

I don't understand all the slayer hatred, unless perhaps the critic is less than 20 years old. Sure they blow now, but they were fucking sacrosanct in the 80's.

Way back in 1983 when most of you were not even zygotes, I walked into my local indie record shop and picked up a little known album on vinyl from a band that no one had ever heard of called Slayer. Show No Mercy unleashed it's hooks into me, and has never let me down. It is amazing that 23 years have passed, and they still are as brutal as they were in the beginning. Slayer is true to themselves, and that is what matters.

You, good sir, are a fuckwit.

I find it refreshing that metal musicians aren't quite as musically close-minded as their fans.

There's a difference between being open-minded about music and listening to whatever's on the radio (christina aguilera, tool, mcr) instead of bothering to seek out anything more interesting. If these guys actually listened to a bunch of more underground albums from various genres and still think these are the best out of everything I'd be amazed.

I am 100% with you. You're TOTALLY right on that!

By the way, I've just found the 2005 version for this same article... and wow, the participants made much better choices. Although (I guess) System Of A Down reached the second place, Nevermore won, and Opeth and Strapping Yound Lad got a LOT of votes. "Ghost Reveries" is so good that it impressed people in 2005 and it's still getting mentions in 2006, just because it got released in a special format, haha. :worship:
