Mikael Akerfeldt's Best Of 2006 list!

I just saw that searching a message board one day, and decided to try it. I am not a fanboy at all... just a fan. The album is pretty cool that way however.

Yeah that's alright. I just fucking hate those weedy little fuckers who hang off every word Maynard utters and go and try and decipher it's 'real meaning'. They spend so much time fucking about when they could be finding better music (no offence).

man, I dont give a F to what kind of music my favorite band is listening to - as long they are giving me enough stuff to awe and impress me. that list tells me one thing: those people are pretty open-minded and too many of their fans are not...
one must be pretty damned sure of oneself to admit listening AND liking Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera! AMEN!:headbang: :kickass:

In between touring, writing, recording, promoting, families, eating, sleeping, taking a dump etc., I doubt these artists get much chance to listen to new music. Most of them have probably only heard the albums they listed and not much more. Which is a shame because as most of us know there was some fine music released this year.

Anneke listing Justin Timberlake wasn't expected, I think. But The Gathering is (also in its music) very open-minded and full of pop elements and moments. What no one can understand is a Viking Metal band picking Christina Aguilera, and Eric Peterson from Testament picking My Chemical Romance.

Anyway, this whole article is worthwhile for just one single thing: the photo of the chick from Epica. Holy shit... that turns me on.

There's a difference between being open-minded about music and listening to whatever's on the radio (christina aguilera, tool, mcr) instead of bothering to seek out anything more interesting. If these guys actually listened to a bunch of more underground albums from various genres and still think these are the best out of everything I'd be amazed.

Omg, your sig is hilarious! Wtf are they doing?!?

Jens Johansson (Stratovarius - ex-Yngwie J. Malmsteen - Dio)

* Cult Of Luna - Somewhere Along The Highway
* The Haunted - The Dead Eye
* Eyes Of Fire - Prisons

Eyes of Fire?!?!? God they suck out loud. They opened for Opeth once... man that was hilarious. Everyone stood and shook their heads and shouted "We want Opeth!!!"

Eyes of Fire hurt my ears. They were so fucking loud. All it was was noise. No one did anything but stand still while they played. Craptastic. We shoulda had Pelican.

Jens Johansson is one of the.... 140 out of 155 musicians in that article, to have a terrible musical taste.

By the way, I've just found the 2005 version for this same article... and wow, the participants made much better choices. Although (I guess) System Of A Down reached the second place, Nevermore won, and Opeth and Strapping Yound Lad got a LOT of votes. "Ghost Reveries" is so good that it impressed people in 2005 and it's still getting mentions in 2006, just because it got released in a special format, haha. :worship:

111 musicians pick their favorites from 2005

Pretty interesting!

Yeah, 'Ghost Reveries' got some votes.
