MILLS AFTERBURNER CAB VS MESA RECTO CAB

Never owned both, but borrowed a Mesa cab for a week once.
Going by my a/b ing then, I'd say 1 is the Mesa, and 2 sounds more like my warhead cab w/v30s (more mid like), so I'd say thats the Mills.
I liked the Mesa cab better back then, but put both together, they were a match made in heaven.

1 sounds ''bigger'' and i could swear thats the Mesa.
But then again 2 sounds ''darker'' and thats also a bit of Mesa's character.

Looks like I am going against the grain here.

2 Mills

2 has those bloated-mids that I have heard in the other Mills clips (based on comparing the clips at the riff starting at 11 seconds).

However, these tests using the exact same mic position for both cabs don't always showcase the best tone from both cabs. It depends which cab you setup first. You would have placed the mic to get a tone you were after with the first cab and the second cab just inherets that same mic position.

Whatever the case, I prefer 1. BTW, I think it is one of your best tones. Sounds really good.

I like 1 better, but they're really close. 2 could probably sound like 1 if it had less treble, and vice versa. real close. sounds good too.

Clip 2 has less clarity compared to Clip 1, which is much more 3D and alive sounding imo. So I'm guessing 1 is the Mills and 2 is the Mesa.

They're different volumes, first of all.

I say 1 is Mesa and 2 is Mills tho, with 1 sounding better to my ears.

Clip 1 seems to have a very familiar mid range, that's what I'm going to base it off. Would be very surprised if clip 2 was the Mesa, it's more dry than clip one. Almost like a Mesa/ Marshal mix.

Interesting though. I like both, they definitely fit the mix in their own way. I was going to say that I liked 2 better than 1, but I'd say that 1 would translate better based on where the mids are positioned.

...everything else would suprise me. The Mesas have that full sound and not that scooped midrange like file 2.

It's really interesting that half the people think 1 is more scooped than 2 and the rest think the opposite. I'd say both are slightly scooped, only at different parts of the spectrum.
