I've got no idea which is which, but #1 sits better and generally sounds flatter. There's something nasal about the 2nd clip. In fact it's a similar characteristic that I've heard in some people's OS tones around here regularly, so if I had to throw my lot in I'd say #2 is Mesa. Wouldn't be surprised to be wrong though.. I have no allegiances :)

Since he said everything is exactly the same in the original post, I choose #1 as the Mills, mainly because I've heard that the cab is noticeable louder than most other cabs, and if he didn't do anything volume wise to the guitars, then it would stand to reason that the first tracks guitars would be louder. Also, it sounds a bit more defined, which again is something everyone says is nice about the Mills. You can't really base a cab of one clip comparison, but if the first clip is the Mesa, that will be very interesting, indeed.

8 more posts and the answer is revealed. Remember, I've only mic'd up the Mills cab around 4 or 5 times. I'm still figuring it out. Let's see if that clue helps anyone.

I love the sound of 1. The overall character of 2 reminds me more of my Mesa, but there are so many variables it's hard to be confident about it.

I prefer the sound of 1 for sure though. I've been thinking about grabbing a Mills so if 1 is the Mills it'll probably seal the deal for me.

My ears must be shot because I honestly can not tell the difference.

Nah, they really don't sound that different at all. The first is brighter and sits in the mix a little better. If you think about it though, it probably wouldn't be hard to match the tones exactly with a slight movement of mic placement or settings with cab #2. They are really close sounding already. That's why I didn't even guess which was which, just that I prefer #1 over #2 in this example.

I don't think #1 sounds much louder than #2 like a few people said though. just slightly brighter... maybe that's why it sounds a little louder

WELL THE ANSWERS ARE:

1. MESA

2. MILLS

I think I like the Mills better. I wasn't adoring it yesterday, but I think one of the speaker connectors was a little loose, causing a slight impedance issue, which I corrected. Now this thing is in fuckin' business!

Really? :u-huh: :goggly:

Care to post a new clip with the same amp settings/mic position? I would be interested to hear how that could improve the overall definition and tame those bloated mids. Maybe the interaction between the 2 different speaker types hypes the Mids somewhat (?). Would be good to hear it with just V30's in it. A with/without Afterburner baffle thingy comparison would be excellent as well to see what affect it actually has. No I am not asking you to break your cab, just would be interesting. :)

No, I mean since the last clips I made that no one liked; The FIRST clips of the cab.

I cannot remove the baffle. It's glued in.
